  1. >Sweden’s government on Thursday said it aimed to build the equivalent of two new conventional nuclear reactors by 2035 to meet an expected surge in demand for power from industry and transport in the coming years.

    >By 2045 the government wants to have the equivalent of 10 new reactors, some of which are likely to be small modular reactors (SMRs), which are smaller than conventional reactors.

    >The government also said it would take on some of the financial risk of building and running new nuclear power though it had not decided what would be the right model to follow.

    >Sweden voted to get rid of nuclear power in 1980, but has gradually shifted its stance. The current right wing government not only wants to replace old reactors at existing sites, but to expand the fleet to new areas that need power to drive the electrification of industry and transport.

    >The government has forecast that electricity demand will rise to around 300 Twh by 2045 as a result of the transition to a fossil-free society up from around 140 Twh currently.

  2. so we will have a muslim country in europe with nuclear reactors by 2035? /s

  3. What about Germany? Do they still bet on the Russian gas?

  4. Good for Sweden, wisely investing into multiple clean energy sources. Even though they are currently the cleanest country in Europe, they understand that with the electrification of transportation and heating way more electricity will be needed.
