Good, nuclear is more efficient and sustainable long-term.
Is this supposed to be framed as negative?
Can’t believe one of them finally grew a couple braincells.
Looks like they’ve decided to take de-carbonization seriously.
Sweden taking sound decisions in energy production
Whelp, once the plant is built… nuclear is zero carbon. And if they follow the French model, they can reprocess the “spent” uranium for reuse in their nuclear plants. (Basically sifting out the highly radioactive impurities, which amounts to roughly 3% of the spent uranium’s mass.)
The 100% renewables target is too hard for many nations.
Lol, just less then a week since the international report about it not being any business cases for new nuclear power plants and Australia cancelled all they new nuclear project due to that there is no economy in building new plants, big or small.
oh look, someone finally saw the difference between wishful thinking and reality
Meanwhile in Germany….
Nuclear should be the baseline with renewables atop it so this sounds good to me.
Common sense prevailed.
Wow. Thank god for the end to this stupidity. Nuclear is actually better for the environment than wind and solar energy (unless they are in a low biotic desert – like sahara, the renewables have a higher environmental cost taking up land and disrupting wildlife – ofcourse it is still better than coal, but nuclear is the best of the lot)
Smart, nuclear is the most efficient power source available to us. Green is great to supplement and support but it’s not a viable option for your primary reliance.
Canada needs to get on board with this.
Great Sweden. All the nuclear waste that Sweden will produce in the next 100 years will fit in a place with the size of a wind turbine. Also, I believe in the next 100 years we will find a way to properly take care of the residues. I just wished more countries follow Sweden plan. Germany was so dumb in deactivating the Nuclear Power plants…
New nuclear power is not going to happen in Sweden. The government is not going to fund it. And it’s not economically viable for a private company to do it. Wind power is cheaper so that is what is going to be built not what the government dreams about.
very good. every country should follow. nuclear is the cleanest and safest energy.
Here’s a nice graph about the sources of electrical power in Sweden:

Fuck yes, things you love to see. Get it Swedes
Nuclear absolutely must be accepted and rapidly built to meet any form of greenhouse emission goals.
Anyone and everyone that is anti nuke at this point can simply get fucked back into reality. Go back to 1979 and protest 3 mile island. Nuclear tech is radically different now.
Sweden has fewer citizens than bangkok
Good. There is plenty of good nuclear tech out there, particularly the Canadian CANDU heavy water reactors. Very safe, uses natural uranium with no enrichment needed, etc. Human beings solved this problem decades ago, let’s just build it.
when sanity and science prevails….nownif they could stop they invasion of privacy politica in the EU I would feel like they are back on the right track…
At last. Common sense prevails.
Say it with me: Nuclear energy is green energy.
100% of anything is a prescription for failure.
90% is good, let’s shoot for 90%.
Go Sweden!!! I’ll take it over carbon emissions any day, even if Uranium isn’t technically renewable.
Nuclear is capable you just have to have the infrastructure (money) to build it. And new plants can take 10+ years to go online.
I will never oppose nuclear as a partner to renewables. But too many politicians push nuclear as a cop out from renewables.
Nuclear matched by or supplemented with renewables is the path forward. We need to get over the collective paranoia about nuclear energy.
Nuclear power is a must. There’s no way around it. Dry years, lack of wind etc. Huge consumers of electricity in the near future(green steel), shortage in most countries around Sweden during the winter. Somebody has to step up and Sweden happens to have a lot of water, uranium and good sites for future storage.
Ideally you have nuclear provide a base load of 35% to 40%, the rest can be renewables + battery systems like using the extra power (sun is shining, wind is blowing) to pump water back in to a reservoir, then when you don’t have enough power (it’s night, no wind but very hot everybody running their AC) you get it from hydro.
Whis is good, compared to Germany who elects to let their population suffer rather than use modern technology.
LETS GOOOOO NUCLEAR! ☢️💛
Nuclear power is a huge W
Having “fleet” in your title makes it sound like Sweden is building nuclear subs. I believe that word only applies to vehicles so, in this case, they’re building a nuclear power *array*.
I’m glad governments and the public are finally warming up to nuclear.
nuclear is still much better than fossil. It’s just that people need to be convinced that it is safe enough
If only we made this realisation decades ago
Smart and sensible decision, in fact, a typical, no fuss, no drama, Swedish decision. Clever guys who don’t mess around when doing serious stuff.
Smart
I’m a computer/electrical engineer. Renewables + nuclear is basically the best option. All countries should go with this mix.
A win for brains and not PR.
Renewables are great to have in the mix but some countries tried to push them as a miracle solution to everything , pushing above and beyond the limits of the technology and making more harm than good.
‘Fleet’ as in nuclear powered ships? Nope, fleet as in many nuclear reactors. Get baited biatch
Fuck yeah
More money needs to be spent perfecting nuclear money vs chasing greener pastures in my opinion material technology has made it extremely safe
Good. We have plenty of fuel and have solved the storage problem.
