>Rep. Maxwell Frost, a Democrat
And the first Gen Z member of the House. He seems like a good dude
How bad is the Florida insurance crisis?
> Floridians pay an average of $6,000 a year for property insurance, according to the Insurance Information Institute, which is about **four times higher than the national average**.
I’ve got friends living in Florida and they’re paying closer to $10,000 annually for their property insurance.
> In the letter to DeSantis, Frost said the stories he heard were the result of the governor’s “lack of leadership to properly regulate the insurance industry, mitigate the destruction of extreme
weather events, and **make informed legislative decisions to solve the problem.**”
DeSantis can’t even make informed legislative decisions on solving his scuffle with Disney. How’s he gonna tackle the insurance industry – especially since they’ve got him in their pocket?
but climate change isn’t real…. keep voting on that point…
SMH
DeSantis has a rubber stamp legislature here who won’t go to the bathroom without his approval. If he wanted something really done about insurance, he could make it happen. It’s just not important to him compared to running for president, fighting Disney and chartering flights with state money to send immigrants from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard.
Sadly, people here will still vote for his bootlickers and probably him again if he runs for Senate as predicted.
Oh no, he’s leading…the bigots who vote for him, off a cliff, into a fire.
> “We should be working towards hardening our homes and businesses, having good resiliency for the climate crisis, but also looking at what are the regulatory options that we have in terms of the insurance market,” Frost told WESH.
So, it’s just a list of things Republicans will never do. Get out while you can still sell your house, Floridians.
Car insurance is f’d as well.
Im curious since Ive been an insurance professional outside of florida for a while now, how exactly does the Governor fix this? Insurance companies are losing their ass in florida and fraud is only a small percentage of the issue.
Let the free market rain down on Florida.
Probably because DeSantis doesn’t consider it a crisis. If he got paid by insurance companies to allow the prices of coverage to rise why would he care?
DeSantis hates the people of Florida. He only wants to be President. Plain and simple.
Grifters gonna grift
Well, that’s the gears of capitalism working.
Desantis can’t do anything since doing something would involve regulation of the insurance industry and he relies on that industry for donations. Money talks, everything else walks.
We need to start rumors that the insurance industry is “woke” and trying to ensure they have diversity. That will get DeSantis’s attention real fast.
>Rep. Maxwell Frost, a Democrat and the first Gen-Z member of Congress,
While I’m glad to see him stand up and say these important things, until a Republican acknowledges the problem, DeSantis is going to pretend it doesn’t exist.
He’s right
Get em’ Maxwell! Absolutely love this dude. This is what leadership looks like. Take notes FL…
People are leaving the state in droves because of property insurance. No initiative, no dialogue with the insurance companies by the State leadership … let the people of Florida sway in the wind.
Ron “5 inch heels” DeSantis is too busy with his nonstarter presidential run to focus on the real issues facing the people living in his state.
DeSantis wastes taxpayer dollars. Conservative he is not.
I just moved from FL to NC, my insurance premiums on a very similar house and the same vehicles is ONE-THIRD
The guy in high-heeled boots who’s afraid of rainbows 🌈 has been busy doing things more important to his career than worrying about the rubes in Florida.
I don’t see the issue. The market dictates what the rates are and Florida’s housing markets frequently suffers massive losses. Why should the government subsidize people living in a luxury market they can’t afford? Do they just want to force insurance companies to spread costs to other markets?
Desantis is a fascist and proud of it too, unlike his heels. Maybe he can just make the extreme weather changes go away by having his goons shoot the hurricane dead like he said he’d do at the debate to the cartels on day one of his administration…what a tough guy projecting so much strength /s FUCKING LOSER ASS WIMP you will be dropping out of the race by April
Don’t like Home Insurance costs? Don’t live in a place God likes to level from time to time.
Geez, it’s about time! Talk about the voice crying out alone in the wilderness
But there’s no State Income tax!
/s
Insurance was one of the first of the lobby cartels to purchase both parties so good effing luck with that. Also, many lobbies work against environmental legislation and it turns out Florida is gonna be effed thanks to the climate change lobbying has done so much to help. Insurance isn’t interested in covering things there more than maybe anywhere other than Louisiana. Their mouthpieces may pooh pooh environmental concerns, but they clearly understand and believe them.
Good move, prettu much anything Ron does here makes him look incompetent.
President To Be within 2 election cycles!!
How bad of a politician can you be when instead of solving the insurance crisis you are fighting an animated mouse. And you are losing to it.
Not much could be done. Over ten major hurricanes in 8 years. Rates are high because people have to file claims, simple as that. Insurance companies are also to blame here by saying they won’t cover a roof after ten years, which leads to people filing claims because they are afraid they will get dropped and be forced to pay for a roof out of pocket that really doesn’t have much wrong with it. The whole thing is out of control, but that’s what happens with amount of storms we’ve had that have created serious damages. That’s the price you pay to live here.
Our insurance QUADRUPLED year over year
Been in commercial and personal lines insurance for over a decade. It’s a two fold problem: the carriers and the contractors.
Florida has a fraud problem. Bottom line. The average roof in the entire state of Florida lasts 10 years. That’s insane, and it’s not because of hurricanes.
It’s soft and hard fraud. It doesn’t help the major carriers in FL rely heavily on independent adjusters who self employ and are contracted by carriers. Those adjusters are paid more the higher the cost of the claim, typically. So they’re incentivized from the jump to jack up the costs as much as possible.
Add into this contractors savvy enough to do kickbacks as well as outright cons who intentionally damage a roof and pass it off as weather (easier to do with wind damage, hard with anything else). They know what carriers consider wind damage as the seasons change, which carriers cover zippered tabs as damage or if they require tears in materials, etc. and they stay updated as carriers update their stance throughout the year.
Everyone involved except the homeowners has an interest in jacking up the costs on every claim. It’s a perfect storm that carriers are dipping out on.
A lot of hot takes in here. It’s not just the hurricanes, folks.
Since the problem was created by wokism, he’ll probably respond that he just needs to get rid of wokists, then the problem will disappear. /s
It’s time to make Florida just one big eco preserve
Floridians will fix this problem by voting in Matt Gaetz as the next governor
Huh. Seems like Florida should have some sort of regulation that their governor has to focus on running the state and shouldn’t be wasting time running for political offices. Like, maybe their governor shouldn’t be allowed to run for president without resigning from the governorship. Strange they don’t have something like that.
He doesn’t want to do anything for Florida. He wants to do things to Florida to prove “conservative” bonafides to early primary states and donors. So a Florida crisis is uninteresting
Guess what is coming to Louisiana soon? The same shit!
Why did I think this is The Weeknd
LOL. I love that this guy and the handful of democrats left in Florida are still holding out hope that the republicans “better angels” will come around. Sorry to say, there aren’t any in Florida. The state is a cesspool filled with exactly the type of people you’d expect to live in a cesspool and its not going to get any better any time soon. But I admire his hopeful attitude. He’s a bit young and life hasn’t smacked it out of him yet.
*checks notes*
Hmmm. Seems like the Free Market should fix this right guys.
I’m not conservative, but am curious what the government’s business is in subsidizing insurance premiums, based entirely on risk.
Well for one thing, you can’t squeeze blood from a turnip. The insurance companies are telling you it is not financially viable to live there any more. There are no solutions that will make it so. Stop ignoring climate change.
Why is The Weeknd on a political podium? Is this a new album drop? What is this??
