  1. **Reddit Verify team**, reporting in! We work tirelessly here at reddit to verify the news on the ground, which is especially important in these complicated and confusing times.

Reddit verify has investigated the claim by the BBC Truth Ministry that this was a ‘Sheffield man’, and we’re ready to report the truth ™ to you.

    >Tijani came to this country [from Nigeria] on a student visa in January 2023.

Not even been in the country a year, and is already considered a ‘Sheffield man’ by the BBC.

    **Verdict:** BBC needs defunding

  2. > Sheffield man

There’s reports that he arrived in January 2023 on a student visa from Nigeria.

Not that that makes him any more or less vile, but it might not make him such a “Sheffield man”.

  3. I have several issues with this whole thing.

Firstly, he wasn’t a Sheffield man, he was Nigerian man. This is ok, it’s just a matter of accuracy.

Secondly this *“Judge Rachael Harrison said the attack was “every woman’s worst nightmare”.* fuck people who say this, you know. I’m a man, and I was raped going home by a man. Let’s not pretend this is just an issue for women. I’m pretty sure it’s a worst nightmare for anyone.

And also the guy who raped me was a U.K. man, not an immigrant or anything like that either, so it’s simply not about geography, race, gender or culture. It’s about rape. Just, do better.

  4. What a revolting predatory criminal.

I hope that he won’t turn out to be a serial rapist that has attacked dozens of victims in multiple countries.

  5. >given a lifetime restraining order to prevent him contacting the victim

    His visa wasn’t revoked?

Also from 29th July to this Thursday is pretty fast, actually impressed.

  6. No sympathy for the victim; just culture war nonsense.

    This thread stinks.

  7. Execution is the only fitting punishment for these types of scum, do NOT waste taxpayers money keeping him locked up for a few years then releasing him only for that monster to do it again!

  8. Why is everyone pretending immigration has nothing to do with this when it’s no secret that the majority of other countries in the world have much worse attitudes towards women than the UK does. Can we stop pretending that all cultures are equal and show some courage and come out and just say the obvious that they’re not. Outside the west and a few other countries most are really shitty.

  9. According to the Mirror article, the girl was celebrating finishing her A level exams. Chances are she was barely 18.

    > He followed the young woman as she walked alone at night before pushing her into a set of railings at an underpass near Sheffield City Centre, where he subjected her to the “nightmare” attack.

    > Tijani grabbed the victim at St Mary’s Gate, and pushed her against the railings before raping her.

Yeah… I know exactly where that happened. That underpass is not somewhere I’d go on my own at night. These kind of underpasses need to be removed. I don’t care if you need to build bridges. I’ll take a bridge over stupid dual carriage ways than go through the underpass. Poor girl.

  10. He raped a girl who was celebrating finishing her A-levels. Probably only turned 18 a few months ago, celebrating her success and excited for university or a new job.

He came here as a student in January, then a few months later was raping a girl that had just finished school.

  11. Judge Harrison said: “No sentence I pass will undo the harm you caused or be considered adequate.”

Bullshit. I’d say the victim would feel much better off knowing he was in prison for say, life, rather than be walking around free in probably 8 or 9 years.

  12. Cut off his head and post it back to Nigeria. Let them see what happens.

  13. Wait, Reddit keeps telling me rape has effectively been decriminalised? I guess I was right, it hasn’t.
