Baffling response to the criticism to not send Israel to the ICC again considering the Gaza conflict and war in general is political.
We’ll remember that for the next election.
Spot on -shocked to say to a FF statement
Unlike Russia/ukraine, which was completely politicised
How can a crisis like this not be politicised? Its not a natural disaster. Are we supposed to act like its happening in a vacuum?
Fianna Fail distancing themselves from this conflict, interesting. Brave move, and I think the right one. Let FG and the other parties fight the next election waving Palestinian flags, FF can talk about issues relating to this country.
Stop politicising things is one of my favourite political tropes, right up beside stop being ideological. You just sound like a stupid bastard or a disingenuous Daniel if you say either of these things in any context.
‘Should not be politicised”, aka ‘this looks kinda controversial can we talk about something else’
politicised? What the hell is this other than politics??
“Don’t politicise this” – says official political communique.
How do you not politicise this?
What a nonsensical thing to say.
Worth mentioning, this tweet is a follow-up to [the initial FF tweet](https://twitter.com/fiannafailparty/status/1724901029849031004) that says “Why did we not vote to impose sanctions on Israel.” This second tweet is just the last paragraph of the whole statement.
For anyone who can’t see it, here’s what the full text says: :
>Proposals to impose sanctions on Israel and to expel the Israeli ambassador would push Ireland to the margins of international opinion and action in a manner that would undermine our influence.
>
>It underplays the value of international and multilateral engagement. Ireland must continue to work with our international partners in responding to this crisis.
>
>The Government has made its position clear regarding proposals to expel the Israeli ambassador. Cutting off diplomatic relations with a country means cutting off communication channels. Diplomacy is not always, or only, about friendly relations and nor is it an endorsement of the policies or actions of a given country.
>
>It is precisely at times of conflict and tension that diplomacy is most useful and needed. It is vital to maintain communication links.
>
>Our position on the horrific situation in Gaza is clear, it is only causing death and misery. But we also need to make this point clear, this is a crisis that should not be politicised.
As a party, you can decide to not politicise it by not bringing motions in the Dáil specifically designed to appeal to a particular cohort of voters, with no actual genuine regard to Israelis or Palestinians.
An example would be the SocDem motion to expel the Israeli ambassador – 100% a political play because they know the govt won’t do it, for reasons far too complicated for a 30-second TikTok video, which is why they brought it as a motion.
Completely cynical.
