Poles are very angry about it, but they always forget that it was just the same for any other country when Poland joined the EU. And I’m very grateful for the amount of support other poles done for my country, Polish equipment makes so many difference, Mig planes, KRABs. But Jesus, hope there will be some agreement which satisfies both sides.
I’d say now it’s not the time for this. The war in Ukraine will not last forever.
Legally impossible is the only way conservatives here seem to do anything.
Daily reminder that these protests are supported and attended by Konfederacja, many members of which are pro-PolExit.
What I don’t get is why Romanian truckers don’t seem to complain about the same issue. Romania handled more than 60% of the Ukrainian grain so far, so our truckers should be even more impacted by this, but I haven’t see any complaints.
Is this a Poland specific thing? Only Polish truckers have this issue with the Ukrainian system?
> Any restoration of the permit or quota system for automotive transport is not legally feasible, as it would be incompatible with an Agreement on the Carriage of Freight by Road between Ukraine and the EU
So change the agreement?
So now it’s gonna be not Ukraine’s fault, it’s Brussels/Germany’s fault. Classic
Upd. Laughing at your downvotes, this is exactly what is happening in the comments above xD
Then easiest solution would be to throw money at the problem. It’s prosperous to expect to only small group of EU companies/citizens to bear major cost of policy of the whole block. Either EU or Poland should recognize this as a cost of implemented policy and compensate the carriers.
The problem is, it’s usually the megacorps that have easy access to EU/country leaders to lobby their poor asses for compensations. Polish trucking industry is based on small medium companies, so – as in this case – they are largely ignored until shit hits the fan. Well, it’s now.
Because this protest is not about demands, but about to cause harm to Ukraine here and now during the war. I will not be surprised that the organizers of this “protest”, and maybe the protesters themselves, earned a lot of Russian rubles from this (in euros, of course). Here is a question for the Polish authorities, and on what basis did they allow this blocking, when they have dozens of other mechanisms to correct those “injustices” without causing harm?
Lmao, it seems that aggressive protectionism is only for Western Europe
CEE can get fucked even if every country complies with EU regulations
‘… it would be incompatible with an Agreement on the Carriage of Freight by Road between Ukraine and the EU.’ (Adalbert Jahnz, the European Commission spokesperson)
To make it possible mayby we should consider Article 12(1) of the Agreement than: ‘Either Party may, at any time, give notice in writing, through diplomatic channels, to the other Party of its decision to terminate this Agreement…
Especially if we know:
The Agreement is about ‘respect drivers, working conditions, fair competition (SIC!) and not jeopardise road safety,’
+
Article 9(2) says: ‘Each Party shall ensure that all necessary measures are taken to give effect to the provisions of this Agreement,…’
And we also undetstand that real life looked like this:
‘Polish trucks wait in an electronic queue in Ukraine to cross back into Poland, in a system that is designed to give priority to Ukrainian companies. – Our trucks have to wait 12 days to leave Ukraine. To legally enter a car in the electronic queue I have to drive it into Ukraine first, can’t do it ahead of time. Polish hauliers go to Lviv, or at most to Kiev. This takes 2 days and then they have to stand for 10 days waiting to be let out. A Ukrainian company, on the other hand, can book a place in Polish system’s queue a few days in advance before it starts transport and before it even enters Poland. Once registered, they can even change the registration numbers of the cars in the system, while our companies do not have this possibility. If, despite this, they have to wait a day or two, they leave the car at the base, the driver takes a break and everything is fine. That’s no way to work,” Borkowski says. Polish carriers are not allowed to employ Ukrainians on this route. – I will not get an entry and exit permit for this man from Ukraine, while Ukrainian companies have access to the Szlak programme and in which they register trips,” explains Borkowski. ‘
From what i read, Ukrainian trucks wait 1-2 days to go into EU, while Polish trucka need to wait 7-14 days. UA also deleted Polish trucks from a queue and that pissed people off the truckers retaliated. Polish state should respond symmetrically to UA

PS1
Interesting question would be if there is a chance to obtain compensation for breaking the Agreement ?
PS2
Just checked – the Agreement is valid till 30 June 2024.
Edit:
Here is a sourece of ‘Agreement between the European Union and Ukraine on the carriage of freight by road’
