  1. **From The Telegraph’s Henry Samuel:**

Gaza’s future is not Israel’s to decide, France warned on Thursday, as it urged the Israeli government to rein in settler violence in the West Bank.

Anne-Claire Legendre, a French foreign ministry spokesman, said the Palestinian Authority, despite its enfeebled position, should decide how Gaza should be run as part of a future state.

“Regarding Gaza, it is not up to the Israelis to decide the conditions of future governance of the Gaza Strip. The Gaza Strip is destined to be part of a future Palestinian state and the Palestinian Authority is destined to exercise its authority there,” she told reporters in Paris.

The call came as Isaac Herzog, the Israeli president, said his country could not leave a vacuum in Gaza and would have to maintain a “very strong force” in the coastal territory for the near future to prevent Hamas re-emerging.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Mr Herzog said the issue was a matter of debate in the Israeli government and he assumed the United States and “our neighbours in the region” would have some involvement in the post-conflict order.

“If we pull back, then who will take over? We can’t leave a vacuum. We have to think about what will be the mechanism; there are many ideas that are thrown in the air,” said Mr Herzog. “But no one will want to turn this place, Gaza, into a terror base again.”

Beyond governance, France also called on Israel to rein in settlers in the West Bank who were displacing Palestinians through “terror”.

“France condemns in the firmest terms violence by Israeli settlers towards Palestinians and whose clear aim is the forced displacement of Palestinians through a policy of terror,” said Ms Legendre.

“Israeli authorities must take the necessary measures to protect the Palestinian population … and respect its obligations to all populations as an occupying force,” she added.

The harsh words from the French foreign ministry came as President Emmanuel Macron defended his stance on the Israel-Hamas war.

  2. When the Palestinians tend to prop up those who wish to kill Israelis, it becomes Israel’s problem, and neither side can take this ongoing cycles of violence anymore.

Hamas and other Palestinian terrorists must go. Nothing short of that is a solution. Not for Israelis nor Palestinians

  3. Israel cannot allow Gaza to be governed by a terrorist group like Hamas again. They tried that already and look at the end result.

  4. When it was up to Palestinians to decide they decided on Hamas. And the ones who did not decide on that got murdered by Hamas (they killed many from PA),

This led to 17 years of sever oppression and poverty for Gazans, and to endless terrorism, rockets and a massacre to Israelis.

So “just let them decide” did not work that well, and its not France that payed that inconceivable price so Its clear why its easy for them to talk.

  5. And if they dare try to decide it, we shall big them the big angry look that we gave Putin when he started his invasion of Ukraine.

Or worst, we might change the colors on the Eiffel Tower.

    Fear us.

  6. The french suddenly remembered international law and war crimes are a thing. Good, maybe others will too.

  7. Deal with your own antisemitism problems before telling Israel how to run its affairs.

  8. Well the headline is true, the future of Gaza is not up to Israel, it is up to the Gazans. If they decide to lay down their arms and live in peace with their neighbor Israel, they could be peaceful and prosperous. But, if they continue to sanction terrorism and terrorist attacked into Israel, they will live in a war torn hell of their own making. I pray that they will seek real peace, if they choose to seek it, they will surely find it.

  9. Weeellll, they decided to go to war with Israel. So actually it is.

  10. Supposing the Palestinian Authority doesn’t want Gaza?

  11. I mean unless someone else wangts to step in and monitor the area or stop israel it kind of ends up being left up to them whether it should be or not.

  12. Isn’t it in Israel’s territory?

Why is/was it okay for China to decimate the Uyghurs? Didn’t hear any such talk from France about that.

    Nor about the Rohingya ?
