But… But… It’s not a quirk, it’s tradition!
America: *”Good, because we are the true land of God”*
Meanwhile, in the US…
Instead they should do an establishment clause and freedom of religion like America has.
Amen. Bring that common sense to America.
What (if any) impact would this have on the King and his magic kingdom?
Church of England is a real church? I thought it does the will of the head of state since Henry the Viii needed a divorce and the papacy of Rome denied it.

Henry VIII (28 June 1491 – 28 January 1547) was King of England from 22 April 1509 until his death in 1547. Henry is best known for his six marriages, and his efforts to have his first marriage (to Catherine of Aragon) annulled. His disagreement with Pope Clement VII about such an annulment led Henry to initiate the English Reformation, separating the Church of England from papal authority. He appointed himself Supreme Head of the Church of England and dissolved convents and monasteries, for which he was excommunicated by the pope.
Does it really matter to make it whatever the state deems appropriate for the time?
Not possible, the head of state is also the head of the church in England. Would require huge constitutional overhauls
How was the king chosen again?
For so many reasons – yes
It’s basically an unspoken norm, but entrenching the separation of religion from government will protect people from any religious nonsense – irrespective of the preacher…
>Liberal Democrat peer
And people still won’t forgive them for making a coalition with the Tories 13 years ago.
Fairy tales should play no part in a modern democracy
Sounds like more Muslim protests are coming
Henry VIII: “What is this nonsense! Have you lost your head?”
We tried this in the states. Good luck
Meanwhile….in the US….
Now do the same in the US. The consideration of whether a candidate is Christian, and if they are, if they are Christian enough, etc. have to go.
“In God we trust” being printed on the US money: both coins and banknotes, is also kinda gross.
>[“In God We Trust” is the official motto of the United States as well as the motto of the U.S. state of Florida.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_God_We_Trust)
[Some states even mandate that “In God we trust” is prominently displayed in every school.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_God_We_Trust#Mandating_display)
Well, the church burned half the country on a kings whim, so good on em I suppose. Sad story for the “witches” and smart ones dough.
Edit: I give it a few years before the islands are so dividied that they are back in fold under Denmark and Norway as the pro and con EU as a lifeline.
I’d be surprised if this goes through. This is too big of a shakeup and an administrative nightmare.
Honestly, I don’t mind the king being chosen by god and all that bollocks. Most of the population just view it as a silly little thing that we all go along with for no real reason. The fact that the whole process is so serious makes it wonderfully silly. It’s almost the makings of a Monty Python sketch.
Meanwhile on North America… 🙄
Could not agree with this more. Can we start taxing the church too? Sure they have enough golden chalices and stolen treasures to spare.
Hey, we can move back now y’all
They’re trying to do the opposite across the pond here ….
