>“I’m begging you and I ask you to support Israel. I’m a strong guy. I don’t ask for money.” – Mr Davidi
That’s a really weird comment to make, they don’t ask for money because they’ve had an army built over decades of funding and supplies from the US
Ireland is being painted as being anti-Israeli which is completely unfair. We do of course support any country in defending themselves against terrorists but that support cannot be unconditional.
There has to limits imposed on how far a country can go in its own self-defence. An attack on your country can’t give you a green card to wipe out an entire country or indiscriminately target residential areas or areas with schools and hospitals.
Israel had the opportunity to take the high road here. They could have flooded the place with humanitarian aid, ensured maintenance of services like power, water , internet, opened up routes for escape, provided for large scale medical assistance, and carried out their attacks on Hamas in a much more targeted and sensitive manner.
Instead they have obliterated the northern part of the country, targeted hospitals and residential areas, shut down essential services and blocked humanitarian aid. It really feels like they are punishing normal Palestinians. Maybe if they tried to win them over a bit, they wouldn’t be encouraging a new generation of terrorists to attack them.
Everyday FFFG and the Geens somehow surprise me with how out of touch they can get. Why did Mícheal Martin even go to Israel? His government talking about how we shouldn’t politicize this conflict and yet here he is rubbing shoulders with the Israelis. I’m assuming now, to avoid politicizing this trip further, that he will be unbiased and go to West Bank or Gaza to show solidarity with the Palestinians also? Fat chance
Edit: Poor researching on my part, I won’t deny that. He will be travelling to Palestine. I do hope though that he doesn’t do more harm than good (which is definitely in FFFGs track record)
Israeli politicians come across as such babies when there isn’t unquestioned support of their endless crusade against their neighbours.
So since when does ireland support an occupation force? Irish people don’t support or stand with Israel. Do we want the murder of Israeli civilians? Absolutely not. Do we support a state created on another peoples homeland by the British absolutely not. Before being occupied Palestine had Christian’s, Jews and arabs, it was Eastern European Jewish terrorists that started the killing and the British and American supported driving people off their lands that has left us where we now are. A shame on any Irish person who says they support colonialism.
This is good. Shows Ireland no nonsense stance is hurting them on a world stage.
Hopefully more countries will grow a pair and follow suit.
Obviously the biggest and most important will never change their view and support. That being the USA.
We shouldn’t support or oppose any country we should support or oppose actions. The issue here is a colonial regime wants special treatment just as the Brits did when they used the same policies here.
I mean – I’m Palestinian and even I was shocked at the brutality of Oct 7th, even opting to donate to the Red Cross because, after all, it’s what we’d want them to do for us and I think the immediate outpouring of support after the terror attacks was necessary.
But what happened after was a million times more brutal, with siege conditions and starvations and indiscriminate bombing campaigns reminiscent of Aleppo, Stalingrad or Mariupol…shit you’d see by brutal third world dictatorships… I’ve very outspoken for coexistence with the cousins but it’s not an argument I can make anymore here sadly.
People here don’t see this as a ‘one time thing,’ they see it as a continuation of the past 75 years of brutality. People think they want us all dead or expelled and, given the way the IDF is acting, they might get that.
Ireland needs to leverage its diplomatic weight in the Middle East to make sure Palestinians feel heard, that they don’t die in the dark. Otherwise we’re looking at a lashing out of anger not just against the army, but against western countries that remained silent whilst this went on…
Thankfully he gave a relatively measured response back that expressed the views of Ireland.
Then he replied that Palestinians should be expelled to Egypt and Ireland? I honestly get the vibe they’re supremacists.
I support Israel in that their civilians should not be massacred, just as I support Palestinians in that their civilians should not be massacred. No doubt there’ll be elements that will now call me anti-semitic…
Just did a quick google there, Mr. Mayor left Likud the Right wing party of Netanyahu to join Yamina the far right zionist party of Naftali Bennett. Basically, he can go fuck himself.
