  1. >Police were called to dismantle a secret cryptomining rig winding throughout the floors and ventilation ducts of a Polish court in September, according to Polish news channel TVN24.

    >Several secured computers were discovered, potentially stealing thousands of Polish Zlotys worth of energy per month (the equivalent of roughly $250 per 1,000 Zlotys.) It’s currently unknown how long the rig was running because the illegal operation went undetected, partly because the computers used were connected to the Internet through their own modems rather than through the court’s network.

  2. Opened article to see a photo of said *”massive cryptomining rig”* and was disappointed with no photo.

Wouldn’t be surprised if it was a Rasp Pi 4.

Dear Journalists: Snow us, don’t tell us.

  3. Well, at least the floors were probably toasty warm for the cool weather change.

  4. This is the reality behind bitcoin and why it is rapidly heading for collapse. The entire system is propped up by and runs off the energy costs borne by the miners, but mining is basically no longer financially viable unless you can steal the power. No mining == no infrastructure == no transactions, and no 3rd party entity going to miraculously appear to bear that cost and fill that role.

The per transaction energy cost for crypto versus conventional fiat currencies’ digital transactions is mind-boggling insane, and hundreds of times slower. If the world had to run off crypto it would take more power than the entire world produces and grind the global economy to a halt.
