    According to the National Centres for Environmental Information (NCEI), a unit of the US weather agency National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), drought conditions were confirmed over northern, eastern and coastal southwestern parts of India in October, affecting about 26.3% of the nation. This represents an increase from the 21.6% of the country that was gripped by drought in September.
