Glasgow: “men born in Glasgow are said to have a life expectancy of 72.9 and women, 78.2 years.” https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/scottish-news/23814760.revealed-life-expectancy-glasgow-men-women/
Gaza: “the average life expectancy in the West Bank and Gaza was 75.4 years for females and 73.2 years for males” https://healthpolicy-watch.news/wha-76-occupied-palestinian-territories/
What has happened that a a developed country has a global city with a lower life expectancy than Gaza?!

I would go for better weather and less alcohol. Another educated guess is that Palestinians don’t deepfry everything they can buy in a supermarket. Take everything I said with a pinch of salt
Another good question is why do men in England have a higher life expectancy at 79 years? We’re neighbours and operate under (kinda) similar governance, I’m surprised there’s a difference of 7 years
Bad lifestyle choices
Well seeing as 1 in 200 Gazans have been killed in the last month, the life expectancy will have dropped a great deal.
Deep fried heroin washed down with a can of special brew will do that 😃👍🏾
Daily digging
Covid, austerity, beer bellies and depression.
This is incorrect. Lifespans WERE higher in Gaza, not now.
The previous comparison is because of the ‘Glasgow Effect’. Google it..
The Greggs Effect
Life in gaza was good before 7.10, 1 out of 4 palastinins is overweight. They just lie that it’s an open air prison with gold iphones and Mercedes dealership.
In fairness I’d rather have 72 years in Glasgow than 75 is Gaza…
Because glasgow is a neddy shithole and Scots will look for every excuse under the sun while aggressively insulting you rather than try to improve things.
In the few weeks since 7/10 average life expectancy in Gaza has fallen considerably both statistically and realistically.
That’s only 4 months mate, better than being bombed.
No battered mars bars in Gaza
Have you been to Glasgow?
People in the middle east generally eat quite a good diet. Also a lot of Muslims don’t drink alcohol, and there will be very limited drugs in Gaza.
Is Scotland considered a developed country?
1. Despite the political situation, Palestinian-Israeli healthcare is fairly decent as I understand it
2. Drugs and gangs do it for lots of Glaswegians
3. Are suicides factored in?
Less buckfast and heroin
Nae munchie boxes in the West Bank
to be honest, if someone told me i could eat shite, drink and smoke, but would die at 72.9 , i’d probably take it!
[The Glasgow Effect](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasgow_effect#:~:text=With%20a%20population%20of%201.2,the%20national%20average%20of%2082.3.) in itself isn’t particularly new, but is maybe not that well known/discussed generally. Only something I became aware of because I used to work with a lot of stats folk who mentioned it a few times.
TL;DR: Glasgow has always been a significant outlier in the UK and Europe for life expectancy, even when we adjust for deprivation and other factors known to influence expectancy its much lower than we’d expect. I suspect Gaza having a higher life expectancy isn’t a particularly recent trend, but it is alarming.
Because there about 10 people that love in the whole of Scotland
Not any more.
They wheel this out every conflict. I remember the Iraq comparison. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2006/jan/21/health.politics
Israel is so bad a genocide that they’ve been beaten by a deep fried Mars bar
