Definitely feels like food quality is going down. It used to be really rare to get a dodgy onion in a 3-pack but now it feels like there’s one in each pack that isn’t right. Same with potatoes – in a 5kg bag it feels like there’s so many that are off.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see a scandal in the future where best by dates were put over their usual limit because of supply chain issues
Supermarket selling shit food. Who’d have ever imagined such a thing?
This is why Turkey Dinosaurs are the superior Christmas meat.
I get mine from the butchers every year. Same price if not cheaper (£20) with bacon on top. And never rancid!
There should be fines for this (assuming the people in question followed the storage instructions), the whole point of use by dates is that the food should be safe to use up to that date.
The old boy farmers couldn’t get any slave labour from the eu this year so they just started slaughtering turkeys earlier to make up for lack of labour and slapped fake sell by dates on them. Supermarkets wont use anyone that gave them trouble next year.
Ah the traditional “rotten turkey” news piece; such a quaint holiday tradition for the week after Christmas.
I’m sure it is entirely coincidental that the businesses listed in the piece [are all clients of 2 sisters food group](https://www.2sfg.com/About-us).
I bought a turkey from the local butchers and my uncle bought a turkey from Asda. The difference in taste was like night and day. The Asda one was absolutely rancid and went uneaten. I’m making a pact to stop eating supermarket meat because it’s fucking disgusting these days. Bacon is pumped full of water, steak is all gristle. There’s no need for it.
Every year there’s always a family crying that Tesco ruined Christmas…
Another reason to buy your meat from the local butchers than a supermarket. Taste and quality difference is night and day. Support your local butchers!
I had a “ripen at home” avocado go off in the fridge in 28 hours last week. Normally Aldi are reliable but that was pretty absurd
Is this a common thing? It seems like each year, same story.
Probably because most supermarkets workers don’t follow the correct chilled chain procedure because they are overworked or blissfully unaware of the consequences of leaving fresh food outside of refrigeration for more than 1 hour.
Buy from a decent butchers and avoid this happening.
F tier shit rag adding emotive words into every headline. Every single blank-live site is run by the same firm and to the same quality. They join the sun, mail, mirror etc on my ‘dont waste my time’ list if I see the link.
This happened a couple of years ago too, i’m not an activist or even a vegan, though i do eat less meat than i used to, and i just thought it was very sad that not only did so many birds die, but that their deaths were not even of any use as food, they were just thrown in the bin up and around the country, their sacrifice being for nothing. I found that sadder than i expected to.
Well, given the actions of this government stopped many of us from having Christmas last year, I’d say rancid turkeys fucked it up then as well.
That’s odd. When there was supposed to be a Turkey shortage everyone was claiming to never eat Turkey.
Given the number of people I know who (a) have never cooked a whole bird before now and (b) seem to think it’s OK to defrost one in an airing cupboard on Xmas Eve.. I’m not surprised.
Every year 😂 Just get one from your local butcher or farmer instead of a nasty supermarket bird and you’ll be fine.
