Haven’t seen a ruling this detailed in terms of public acknowledgement. This sends a pretty clear message to the tabloids to watch their journalistic integrity (if they still have any).
Judge Mark Warby of the High Court in London ordered The Mail on Sunday to couple the apology with a longer “notice” inside the newspaper under the headline, “The Duchess of Sussex,” which explicitly states that the court found “Associated Newspapers infringed her
He also ordered that the apology appear on the homepage of MailOnline “for a period of one week” and include a hyperlink to the official judgment and summary under the wording, “The full judgment and the Court’s summary of it can be found here.”
…the Duchess can also expect to receive substantial financial damages from the newspaper group. In March, it was ruled that the publisher of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday should pay 90% of Meghan’s estimated $1.88 million legal expenses for pursuing the 18-month-long case.
Good. The right wing media have been relentlessly attacking her. They treat Kate as a saint and Meghan as the Antichrist.
Good for her the DM must be seething they have to publish that. I do wander what this ruling could mean for the layman, is it a precedent? What was published defined as?
Mail Newspapers had some serious balls to go after a Hollywood actress who was literally married to royalty.
That being said, if she did what Hulk Hogan did to Gawker Media and actually drove DMGT to bankruptcy, she would go from being the most hated to the most loved royal overnight…
Just another in a long line of garbage produced by the mail.
Relates to an episode where the article written was a pack of lies from start to finish that ruined this man’s life. The subject of a BBC documentary, it shows reckless disregard for integrity and the belief that bringing such cases to court is impossible for most so they publish with impunity. Never bought a mail since I saw the documentary and have never forgotten it. And never will.
It’s a really fascinating career Meghan has ahead of her. Truly innovative. All she has to do is live her life, raising her kids, wandering about, being brown, being married to Prince Harry, you know, stuff she’d be doing anyway, and the papers just can’t help but slander her, libel her and invade her privacy.
It’s like she’s found some kind of infinite money cheat code.
I don’t get this case. The letter was given to her father, surely he has the right to do what he wants with that? The damage are ridiculous. But I guess when you’re royalty you’re above the law.
This woman has turned me from an anti-monarchist to a monarchist.
Oh ok, good to know. In other news from California…
Constantly blows me away that Harry can be so rich and powerful yet have such a shit haircut.
Thought the British public would be harsher on this type of media after Diana (or maybe having some empathy in general and imagining what it would be like to have painful parts of your life publicised), but guess not.
I really wish all the tabloids newspapers in the UK, that participated in any sort of fake news or slandering went bankrupt and were closed down for good.
Honestly all the shit show the country is going through is theirs to blame. They helped the same corrupted politicians who are in charge right now by publishing lies after lies.
They caused a lot of problems to celebraties, royals anyone and everyone that doesnt fit in the criteria of their ancient racist xenophobic sexist readers view, they soley exist to feed incorrect info, racism, xenophobia, sexism, for pure profit. I think as a society we are past them, once their good old public die of old age (which wont take long), I want to see how they will manage.
