I think it can quite insidiously sanitise some of these people to reduce them to being just a “celeb”.
I don’t really think politicians should fit into the category anyway, but at least when someone like Dorries was on it, she was a) a nonentity at the time (and arguably always has been), and b) wasn’t carrying anywhere near the level of baggage she is now.
I’m no fan of Farage and my usual approach to this sort of TV is simply to not care about it, but I was genuinely angry when they announced Matt Hancock was going to be on it.
He’s not a “celeb”, he’s a member of government who was directly responsible for health decisions and strategies during a time of national crisis. His arrogance, ineptitude and recklessness got people killed. Yes, they don’t make him look good, and when he’s on this and other things like the SAS show, they make him look like a joke, but he’s not a joke, because jokes are funny. There is nothing funny about the misery Hancock is responsible for.
Yet itv media say it was 10 million viewers, up 1 million in last year. Who to believe?
I find that hard to believe. The kind of person who watches that kind of nonsense probably has no idea who he is and why he’s made their lives harder.
I’m impressed with Joe public. I thought they’d gladly and without question watch any sensationalist moronic tosh & twat, and I’m glad I’m wrong.
I doubt this, the people who watch this are unlikely to follow politic or know who he is anyway
ITV probably thought they could make Farage into a Gillian McKeith, who the public delighted in sending into the trials with her tremendous fear and tendency to feint. If that were the case for Farage, I’m sure those boycotters would be tuning in to watch too, but upon realizing he’s likely to just get on with it, they aren’t very happy!
Now, he has air time and a chance to show his personal side. His critics absolutely HATE that!
(Each downvote on my comment represents one angry Farage hater)
>The reason the figures are down on last year’s show is at least in part due to the decision of thousands of fans to boycott watching because of the inclusion of Brexit campaigner Farage.
Boycott’s effect is seemingly overblown to bait clicks. Thousands is less than a percent of a 2m viewer drop.
I refused to watch it when they put that shitweasel Hancock in there. They’re profiting from people’s grief and anger and that is so not ok. I hope the show gets cancelled.
There’s something revolting about paying reviled people outrageous amounts of money so that the public can enjoy seeing them humiliated. That an arsehole like Farrage ends up making £1.5 m out of it is flabbergasting. ITV is rewarding bad behaviour.
I can’t believe there are still millions of people who watch this guff anyway …
I think it’s good he was able to get on the show without a single bullet being fired.
I haven’t watched the show in around 20 years. Watched season 1 and 2 I think but found it boring after that. I get the appeal though and it’s much better than most network shows but we’ve got streaming now.
As for having politicians well they’re not celebrities. ITV have clearly picked him for the gate watchers and to get in the news.
This show is asinine in normal times, absolutely no ducking way I’d watch that human shit stain on TV, fuck Farage.
Is it the boycott though?
Or is it just this tired ass tv show concept and the migration away from watching TV live?
I very much doubt that millions of people are boycotting it. I’d say it’s dozens or hundreds at the most.
Rees Mogg would really suit the show. Farage is mid…
The show should have been retired literally 15 years ago. I don’t know how people still watch this shite. It’s the same fucking thing every year. Notwithstanding all the insects they kill for enjoyment, the whole format is a dated, boring mess. Adding Farage definitely hasn’t helped and I was actually piqued to see Grace Dent but I won’t even be peeking in for a glimpse as long as that fat toad faced racist is on it.
I’ve not watched an episode in my life – but part of me is tempted to tune in to see Nigel eat a dick.
If Farage is the reason for a drop in viewing figures, then it’s a reflection on the pathetic state of the British public. But I suspect the reason is simply that the show has run its course, regardless of who the chosen “celebrities” are.
It’s a tired and overdone show on a tv channel which is losing out with younger viewers who don’t watch terrestrial TV. Like this might be the farage effect but channels like ITV surely don’t have long left
The number of up themselves middle class people acting like they’re better than this show and it’s viewership is honestly as nauseating to me as Farage being in the Jungle.
I’m not sure it’s him.
The show has been shit for a while.
never thought people shouting “boycott this xxxx” and actually go through with it, usually they shout and forget about it the next day or has no affect, it’s great this worked, we treated johnson like a celeb when he left office in late 2000s like presenting on have I got new for you, we can’t do the same to this guy who helped this friends make over £300 million by [shorting the pound on referendum night](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ht40yrt3VrY)
I reckon they got good ratings from Hancock and wanted to do it Again and More, but this is too far
They had Hancock on before and the ITV crowd lapped it up. They probably thought they could do it again
Farage accusing people of being small minded. Irony is dead
Never watched this show in the past and not about to start solely because some controversial public figures are getting dumped on by a wombat or whatever it is they do ‘in the jungle’
This is all too early to call IMO. People are sheep. They will still be viewing the gossip on Social Media. They will still consume the show but in different ways.
Even here. We’re taking about the show.
Idiot UK, home of working class millionaires like Ant and Dec.
Good. The viewer shouldn’t tolerate giving vast sums of cash to well documented antisemites, especially with the rising tide of antisemitism globally.
Honestly Nigel was one of the few i could tolerate, i even had a chuckle when he decided to flaw it in the jeep, its the other generic nobodies that annoyed me especially that youtuber
All in all its a pile of shit show
Maybe it’s tanking because people are just fed up of it. Why is Britney Spears sister on it, how is she a celebrity. Never heard of any of the others. The only name there is Farage, and he’s just a failed politician.
I don’t watch that shite anyway but now I can officially call it a boycott
