Helsinki shut its four border crossings on Saturday in a bid to halt an upsurge in illegal migration, which it says is Russia’s retaliation to it joining Nato.
“This causes nothing but deep regret, because we had long-standing, very good relations with Finland, pragmatic, based on mutual respect,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.
“And of course, we regret that these relations were replaced by such an exclusively Russophobic position, which the leaders of this country began to espouse.”
“We are invading a sovereign country, bombing civilians, and kidnapping Ukrainian children, why are our neighboring countries so Russophobic?”

Russia has been pushing immigrants towards the Finnish border. It’s a well-known hybrid warfare tactic and the response is closed borders and increased surveillance. It’s no phobia, but a very real attempt to destabilize a country.

I assume they knew what the response to this would be, meaning Russia wanted Finland to close their borders.
