  1. Let’s be honest, it’s the only route they have. They’ve pissed off their core working base and it’s election time soon. I agree with cutting PAYE tax and please scrap that stupid marginal rate at £100k.

  2. I mean now the cupboards are bare, and the writings on the wall, it’s the perfect time to massively reduce government income while looking like you are “doing something” to help people.

Ramp up government borrowing for a year to paper over the cracks of the loss of revenue, and you get to hit the next lot with a double whammy: needing to raise tax revenues to cover costs (tax rises), as well as making the rises more than the cuts, since they have to cover the interest on the new debt as well.

  3. I’m sure that’ll do wonders for our public services.

  4. Ah, how can me make Labour struggle and look worse when they get back in power. Watch them have to put taxes up again to try and somehow balance the books.

  5. We (apparently) had to scrap big chunks of HS2 to cover the cost of basic road maintenance, how are we now suddenly in a position to be cutting taxes mere months later?

  6. > Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has said the government is now able to cut taxes ^^^for ^^^the ^^^rich, after the pace of price rises eased.

    > Mr Sunak said his target of halving inflation had been met so taxes would be reduced ^^^for ^^^the ^^^rich ~~in “a responsible way”~~.

    > The prime minister would not confirm where exactly tax cuts would be made.

    #For the rich.

  7. The Tories are facing an absolute armageddon at the next general election, they are now doing absolutely anything to avoid being wiped off the political map, including emptying the countries purse, rewriting this countries laws and disregarding human rights.

I think we are going to see a torrent of populist moves by the Tories over the next 12 months, many of which are a long way from being the best decisions for us all.

It also means one of the first things Labour will need to do is increase taxes to cover the deficit so the Tories will immediately call Labour the party of taxation.

  8. It’s a win-win for the tories here (I hate to say it).

Lower tax which is of course a popular policy to the average voter. But importantly, they’ve lowered it when we’re right on the brink of the election which the conservatives probably won’t win. Then, labour (or whoever takes charge) will have a low government budget and be forced to increase taxes back which will, of course, be unpopular

  9. So how are we supposed to pay for stuff? Oh, that’s right, we’re selling everything off to the US. There goes privacy. There goes equal treatments for all. Hello algorithms, homelessness and general depression for all!

  10. Yes Trussonomics was bad but now it’s my turn, I’ve got an election coming soon!!!

  11. Nothing sadder than a government calling for change when they’re the ones who have been in for over a decade. Tories, this is literally all your fault.

  12. also fishyrishi… “yees, this should placate the morons”

  13. (But only for me and my Tory mates, not you PAYE plebs lol)

  14. Cheers Rishi! Now I don’t need to sell my body to afford basic amenities

  15. So cut income tax, further decimating public funding, so council tax, from money you’ve already been taxed on, increases to cover the shortfall. But it doesn’t touch the sides, leaving the country to go even further down the shitter. Crap roads, inaccessible police, dentists and GPs, underfunded and overcrowded schools, for no net gain whatsoever.

I’m sure those tax cuts will trickle down any day now, and fix everything.

Well done, genius. What a fucking pipe this man is.

  16. >The government has already announced that claimants who are deemed fit to work and refuse to seek employment would lose access to their benefits for a period.

This is literally how it already works though? If you refuse to look for work they sanction you. Sounds like they are just saying things people want to hear as a lot of voters love to shit on so-called scroungers. All they are going to do is fuck over the poor/disabled and cut taxes for businesses & well off people

  17. salting the earth for the next government as they don’t think they stand a chance.

  18. “So labour have to raise it again when they get in so they’ll make us look good”

  19. >Rishi Sunak: The time has come to cut tax for the Uber rich and significantly raise it for the poor

  20. Cutting tax when the country is in massive debt and apparently no money for basic public services. That sounds like a sensible longterm plan

As per usual just a policy to win votes when an election is round the corner rather than a sensible policy

  21. And that time just happens to come as an election looms?

  22. Would be fine if tax stayed the same, but the tax bounds haven’t changed in forever! These need adjusted for inflation!

  23. Cutting taxes for *whom*, exactly? Details matter, especially with the Tories. They tend to look after themselves and screw everyone else.

  24. So they will stop the immigrant tax from the NHS for people entering UK? Or is it only for the rich and others that don’t work?

  25. TLDR : some of my billionaire mates would quite like even more money. Nobody will notice I’ve f*cked the NHS even more, and my mates all have private health insurance.

  26. For my rich chums. You poors can carry on paying through the nose.

  27. So plan is to leave such a shitshow that Labour have no chance of fixing it meaning another Tory win after the next election?
