To be fair Spain is mostly ‘countryside’ it can afford to lose quite a bit more.

To be honest, after moving to Madrid from Austin I have often been happy to see the countryside around Madrid. Austin got rid of all of its interior beauty and has expanded in every direction for dozens of miles. In fact, today it reaches to the south all the way to San Antonio.
