Top Gear will not return for foreseeable future

  1. Yeah, they said that months ago.

Shame as it had just started to get pretty decent with the new cast.

  2. It’s not returned in my household since Jeremy, James, Hammond left.

  3. Time to let it die.

Should have finished it when Clarkson was (correctly) fired for punching a work colleague. They spent years trying to recapture lightning in a bottle.

  4. Should’ve binned it years ago. Or they should’ve given it to Alan Partridge for a 6 episode series.

  5. Should have made a show like old Top Gear, but with a different name so it could live outside the shadow of new Top Gear.

  6. I think the Chris Evans / Matt LeBlanc duo killed it.

Bought in because they were ‘names’, LeBlanc maybe for the US market but it just did not work.

I liked the last lineup but I think it was too late.

  7. I liked Harris as a presenter, one of the few actual race drivers they had on the main cast

  8. With EVs gradually taking market share, in a few years kids wont know what gear means in the context of cars. Being it back with an EV focus and a new name

  9. It’ was once the biggest selling BBC show globally and made a ton of money for the BBC. Now we have an ex gov minister Michael portlillo mincing around in his red trousers clutching a book while riding on trains. How typical of the BBC. Shooting itself in the foot wasn’t good enough since the ever giving tax payer can fund any gap, they had to shoot themselves in the head and heart too.

  10. Shame. Really enjoyed it when CH came abroad and they got rid of Evans.

Hopefully Harris continues success within his channels as will always watch him.

  11. It’ll not come back in the same power even if they wanted to.

They were nothing without Clarkson, Hammond and May, each of them key to the show’s success and geniuses in what they did, hell it was one of the main reasons to actually pay your TV Licence after Dr Who (before it went to shit too, and don’t say Eastenders, that show has been circling the drain a long time).

The new hosts tried but only Matt Le Blanc did well at first. The rest of them felt like they were trying to force the chemistry between them and……it wasn’t there. CHM were a match make you couldn’t emulate.

With the looming demise of new ICE cars the show would be in a bit of an odd spot anyway.

Mind you, Clarkson has went from strength to strength with Clarkson’s Farm.

  12. The series was always a disposable channel filler even before Clarkson et al were recruited.

  13. Didn’t like the latest trio – they spent too much time onscreen bullying Chris Harris which felt forced and unnecessary. Not the same chemistry.

It’s a shame but maybe time for a break at least, given that reports say Freddie degloved his face

  14. The first few series after Clarkson left were pretty cringy and off putting; especially shouty Evans.
But I’ve they got Chris Harris I really enjoyed his segments and it felt like it was going better.
Sadly I think Paddy is just a bit of a knob and barely seems to be there aside from being a well known face. Freddy was a bit better and felt more genuine and Chris is always amazing but treated like crap for some reason.

I think the best TG was when they went out to build some ridiculous vehicles like the hovercraft or the electric car and then just had challenges.
The more recent episodes just felt like extreme stunt filling the time with some car-porn fluff filler. Kinda lost its way despite the presenters starting to work well together.

  15. The Flintoff incident has given the BBC a convenient excuse to axe the show. Clarkson was and still is a dick but the dynamic he had with Hammond and May was undeniable and impossible to replicate. I expect we’ll see another attempt to reboot it in the future and it’s very unlikely to be as good as the golden years were.

  16. I’m a boorish 18-60 yo man who likes Peroni and jeans with pointy brown sheux. Who will cater for my televisual needs????

  17. I’m not into cars in anyway, but if you enjoy cars and the vague top gear “it’s all gone to shit and theres a group on camera” format then autoalexcars is good on YouTube.
