  1. I could think of a few more “reasonable” things to call him.

  2. The real reason that Tory scum like Iain Duncan Smith want to leave the ECHR is contained in the article:-

    >The high court ruled that the defence needed to set out the facts for a “reasonable conduct defence” in relation to the freedom of expression and assembly rights in the European convention on human rights, but that it had been up to the prosecution to demonstrate the proportionality of an interference with those rights, which it had not done.

  3. Tories really do love freedom of expression I mean litigation.

I trust GB News are commenting on this judgement positively.

  4. Lol at the result but how on earth did this get to the high court.

  5. For some reason I’m now remembering the hilarity that was plebgate.

  6. High court?! It’s a non-event.

I mean, I personally wouldn’t call any politician scum, but I don’t see why others can’t.

  7. Part of the charge related to ‘insulting’ words. I can’t get over the fact that they are literally prosecuting people for an insult. This really IS showing the state to be fascist.

It won’t be long until this law is changed and protections for protestors removed. And I don’t foresee Labour overturning any of it..

  8. No problem, as long as those calling out don’t mind being called left wing scum back.😲

  9. Well duh.

Hes a tory, therefore scum. And he’s iain Duncan Smith so therefore scum.

    Double scum.

  10. The man that ignored Freedom of Information requests into how many disabled killed themselves because of his policies is a very scummy man.

  11. To be accurate, why should Mr George Iain Duncan Smith be concerned with acknowledging Scientific Truth.

  12. “Freedom of speech unless you disagree with me”. Typical Tory hypocrisy. Happy to being in policies that actively make people miserable or demonise swathes of the population, but call them a mildly nasty name and it’s the end of the world.

They want the power with zero consequences or criticism. Which proves why they’re entirely unsuitable for power.

  13. “Scum” is an upgrade.

Iain Duncan Smith is responsible for deaths.

  14. Frankly this “[using]abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent” shouldn’t be illegal in the first place.

I’ve always maintained that the UK has very little in the way of protection for freedom of (even offensive) expression, particularly in public.

I know it’s not entirely popular and has issues of its own, but we really could do with similar free speech protections afforded those in the US through the first amendment.

I also think the entire public order act should be scrapped. It’s a disgrace, not just the new protest restrictions, but the entire concept of breach of peace. It’s often misused and is a thoroughly authoritarian piece of legislation.

  15. As Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Smith created a system that caused the deaths of tens of thousands of poor and disabled people, yet cannot withstand being called scum.

    Completely unsurprising.
