  1. The whole report is long. But the link does provide a summary. Happened in November 2021.

  2. They chose to come from a safe European country on a shit boat. I refuse to feel guilty about this.

This will get lots of downvotes and stuff about safe routes etc. I don’t care. You choose to cross on an inflatable boat you make your choice.

  3. Jesus.

These people were refugees trying to get here to escape war and persecution. And they died because the only way to get here was to risk their lives.

(In case you disagree with that as a statement of fact, the majority of people crossing the Channel have their asylum claims accepted. So if you disagree with the idea that they’re refugees then you’re disagreeing with the UK rather than disagreeing with me)

That’s what closing the safe, legal routes to asylum here has done. It’s killed yet more refugees like this.

  4. This thread is an absolute shit show.

People arguing about migrants and human rights, FFS.

    ## at least 27 people died on a sinking rubber boat.

Regardless of your political views on immigration, they never deserved that. This happened in 2021.

  5. This is what happens when we make this the most viable route.

We should put anyone who crosses by boat back and stick to taking refugees directly from organised UN camps.

So much exploitation happens during these journeys & it needs to be stopped.

  6. If they knew there was no chance of entering the uk or a eu country but would instead be deported- would they risk that ?

  7. Will continue to happen until we make it clear that on the other side of the channel is a flight straight to Rwanda.

  8. Imagine spending thousands of pounds for a ride on a really shitty boat just to try and get a free house and benefits.

  9. In this thread there are a lot of common people who have drunk the Tory/UKIP/BNP/ReformUK KoolAid, as the Americans would say.

As in our daily lives, we see in this thread A lot of the common working class folk, who have been radicalised, and misinformed, by the Upper Classes and their friends in Print Media.

You would think after close to 15 years of, ever politically shifting to the right, Tory party politics and media manipulation, people would now be used to and immune to their rhetoric.

Sadly that is not the case.

They have probably been doing this for longer, but I’ve only been politically active for the last 20ish years. For nearly the last two decades, the Tory administrations have used rhetoric around Migration, War or threat of, The Woke left, and among other issues, The „evil“ EU to cling to power, all the while implementing disastrous policies that worsened Austerity, kept wages below inflation, cut public services and support, and forced us into a deadly cost of living crisis.

They succeeded in using rhetoric to get common people to vote against their own interests. Their actions have worsened the lives of most Britons, but they will keep winning elections as they promise to fix the issue next time.

They routinely blame others for their failures and incompetence.

Its easy for the Tories to blame migrants for creating a strain on our housing market, when the Tories have not overseen any significant development of public housing, or controlled the inner city rental market.

It’s easy to blame the greedy migrants for taking all the benefits, and leaving no money for the British, when in reality the Tories have been and continue to cut social security benefits and unemployment benefits. Migrants, asylum seekers, can not claim any significant social support. Feel free to read their entitlement on the Gov.uk website, and not in the Daily Mail.

It’s easier to blame crime on people of colour, migrants and the poor, even though you have overseen a huge cut in police funding and recruitment.

It’s easy to say there are record levels of unprocessed asylum seekers in the uk, and not tell the public that your lack of funding has made it impossible to significantly process asylum applications, and then follow through with deportation.

It’s easy to harvest public anger, by putting asylum seekers in hotels , rather than following the lead of other nations and building cheap affordable accommodation for asylum seekers during their application process.

The UK is not full up. We can easily build more houses. We choose not to. Housing demand and high rents and property prices are beneficial to the Tories, as is a certain level of unemployment and scarcity in the market.

They get richer while we struggle.

The asylum seekers aren’t taking all the benefits. The system is not fit for purpose, in a economy where the minimum wages are increasing at a slower rate then inflation and cost of living, and where jobs are lost to further automation.

There is no „invasion“. Such language creates fear, and has caused an increase in violent attacks against people of colour in the UK. As is Branding migrants as „fighting age men“. This language is designed to scare you to vote Tory.

The Tories failed at controlling immigration, legal and illegal. The Tories failed our economy, and our social system. Don’t let them blame migrants, who are not a significant drain, and don’t let them blame the incompetent Labour Party or the Woke left, who have not been in power or in charge of policy.

It is very sad these people died while attempting something dangerous. They wanted to come to a relatively peaceful country and improve their lot in life.

  10. “Hey guys, 27 refugees have died, let’s spare some empathy for human lives lost”

This Subreddit “NO! they deserve it!”

The rabid thirst for blood on Reddit at the moment is insane

  11. If I was piling onto an inflatable boat with 30 people I wouldn’t want people to even feel sorry for me if I died, don’t give me the fleeing war torn nations spiel either most are just men who pay good money to a smuggler to get them to a European nation because they’re told they can go there for a lavish lifestyle with free money.
