  1. Wasn’t there an article related to these protests that, as a direct result of the traffic caused, 2 women died. The article noted that they were parked on the hard shoulder due to the traffic which led to the crash, then ambulances were unable to reach them due to the traffic.

I may be wrong, but there’s no mention of this in the article. I wonder if that influenced sentencing.

  2. Daily reminder that protesting isn’t a defence to what would otherwise be a crime.

  3. Two years is fuck all. The prisons are too full for non violent offenders they wont see more than a couple months sadly.

  4. Why are the UN getting involved with UK legal matters? Given what’s happening around the world, you’d think they have something better to do. Pathetic populist grandstanding.

  5. The UN really is scraping the barrel with picking at this.

I’m guessing they’ve realised that Russia and Israel aren’t paying attention so let’s pick on someone else.

Lesson being, the UN can be ignored without consequence.
Interesting to note who currently chairs the head of the UN humans rights council.

Beating a girl into a coma over a scarf because an imaginary man in the sky said so… OK…

    Protesters in Prison.. not OK.

  6. The right to peaceful assembly is not under threat; the right to vandalize and, block public roads, certainly should be.

  7. Is it just me or has the UN taken a huge move to the left in the last twenty years? They seem to be all over the touchy feely issues and a lot less “send in the armies to defend Koreay”

25 years ago a “certain standard” had to be met before we could go into Kosovo where Serbs were clearly massacring Muslims. Still they said no so in NATO went. 20 years ago GWB described the UN as no longer effective. Now we have the UN reproducing Hamas statistics as facts and so on.

  8. I think it’s clear from their recent comments on Israel that the UN rapidly losing their credibility. Coming out with this nonsense just adds further credence to that.

  9. To be fair, they will both be out on parole half way through their sentences, so to be honest they won’t be in prison for that long. In view of how many people’s lives they disrupted, and the potential to have a serious impact on lives (just stop oil have shown no regard for ambulances), I feel like they got off lightly.

  10. There are literally rapists in the UK right now who are being given less severe criminal sentences than these protesters.

Just who are the weirdos in this subreddit who think a sentence of this length is justified?

  11. I sometimes think the UN is a parody set up as a joke that has just carried on. They can condemn sentencing for a bunch of self righteous tossers in London but appoint Iran as head of a Human Rights Council forum.

  12. 3 years for being a public nuisance? I really need to curb my Facebook shit posting.

  13. It’s insane that you can attack someone, killing them in the process and get a shorter sentence than this.
