What a windfall. Really going to push those properties into the rental/buyers market.
/s if it’s not obvious enough.
” More than 50,000 properties had been identified by Revenue as potentially vacant.”
50,000 is far less than so many commentators were claiming.
TIL there are only 3000 vacant properties owned by SF/Lab/Ind voters.
But it’s only 3 times the property tax & prop tax is based on self assessed value. So even if you don’t just say your house is worth half what it actually is people will pay ~€1350/year on a €500,000 house
It’s a bit surreal to see The Indo highlight a shortfall in property tax.
I’m surprised they were able to get 3000 Plebs to pay this tax at all. The exemptions / application basically gave anyone who bothered to look a free pass.
ask Yourselves the following questions about any vacant properties you are familiar with:
* Is the property structurally sound?
* Has any of the property collapsed?
* Is the inside of the property exposed to the elements?
* Does the property have a sound roof?
* Does the property have sanitary facilities?
* Does the property have a water supply?
* Does the property have an electricity supply connected?
if any of these are true then the property maybe considered uninhabitable/ derelict which exempts it from LPT/ vacant home tax. 90% of the vacant properties I have been in over the last 6 months have at least 2-3 of the above.
