Scream VII filmmaker Christopher Landon has responded to the news of Melissa Barrera‘s firing by Spyglass Media over her social media repostings over the Israel-Hamas conflict.
“This is my statement: 💔 Everything sucks. Stop yelling. This was not my decision to make,” Landon wrote on Twitter.
Barrera, who came to fame in Starz’s series Vida before being propelled to Warner Bros. feature musical In the Heights and 2022’s Scream and this year’s Scream VI as Sam Carpenter, sister of Jenna Ortega’s Tara Carpenter, reposted a series of Pro-Palestinian posts to her Instagram stories which were interpreted as being anti-Semitic by those close to the film production.
A spokesperson for Spyglass, the company behind the Scream franchise, issued a statement after the initial publication of this article: “Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”
Post SAG-AFTRA strike, Spyglass Media has yet to announce any returning castmembers or new cast for Scream VII.
Any criticism of Israel’s actions is anti-semitic these days.
What’s wrong with wanting innocent people on both sides to live?
I thought she said nothing wrong. The studio is corrupt.
They should re hire her, that’s some bullshit
Hot potato at its finest
Israel rules the world. 👀
I don’t care because she’s a terrible actress. By far the weakest link of the past 2 films and one of the major problems of both.
But Noah schnapp gets away with Zionist is sexy stickers damn unfair respect to her for standing up
Turn about is fair play. Everyone loved it when Gina Carano got canned when she posted something they didn’t like, but mad about this? Well, that’s what you get when you demand people be fired for expressing their opinions.
She did not say anything antisemitic. The studio deserves a huge backlash for this decision.
Haha. Liberals don’t know how to react when they start getting cancelled. Congrats you will ensure that shit head trump will be elected again.
People shouldn’t listen to him and they should keep yelling. Just maybe at Spyglass and not at him
Looks like it’s how you kids say play stupid games win stupid prizes
We have no idea what conversations are happening privately. The rest of the main cast are all close with Melissa and we don’t know if they’ve already signed their deals or not and we don’t know if Melissa told them to just do the movie and not worry about her, so I hope people reserve judgment against the cast and the crew unless any of them throw her under the bus — which I highly doubt would happen anyway.
Absolutely fucking ridiculous.
Reading what she actually said, it wasn’t antisemitic.
This is going to go down as the second worst decision in the Scream franchise.
She is so pretty; the only watchable thing about these movies.
Disposable artist gets disposed of
Aka- another Tuesday in Hollywood
I hate things like this! They’re the fucking director and they go “stop yelling it wasn’t me” if they actually cared about quit! Or make a public statement calling the people out who did fire her! But they won’t showing how little they actually care.
If you stand by something you’re supporting it.
It’s ok we know who’s decision it was
If the studio had kept its cool, no one would’ve cared what she posted on instagram by the time the movie comes out.
it’s so fucking wack that you can be labeled an antisemite just because you don’t agree with israel’s shitty policies and practices. fuck that noise
