  1. > DENVER — Both a liberal group that sought to disqualify Donald Trump and the former president himself on Monday night appealed a Colorado judge’s ruling that Trump “engaged in insurrection” on Jan. 6, 2021 but can stay on the state’s ballot.
    >
    > The appeals were filed with the Colorado Supreme Court. The ruling by District Court Judge Sarah Wallace on Friday — which said Trump is not covered by the constitution’s ban on insurrectionists holding office — was the latest in a series of defeats for the effort to end Trump’s candidacy with Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.
    >
    > The constitutional provision has only been used a handful of times since the years after the Civil War. It was created to prevent former Confederates from returning to government positions.
    >
    > The group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, filing on behalf of a group of Republican and unaffiliated Colorado voters, argued that Wallace was wrong in ruling that it’s not clear the provision was intended to apply to presidents. Trump, meanwhile, appealed Wallace’s finding that he did engage in insurrection and questioned whether a state court judge like her, rather than Congress, should settle the issue.
    >
    > The case will go to the seven justices on the state court, all of whom were appointed by Democrats.

    > Colorado officials have urged a final decision by Jan. 5, 2024, when they must finalize their primary ballot. The next step after Colorado’s high court would be the U.S. Supreme Court, which has never ruled on Section 3.
    >
    > Trump has slammed the lawsuits as “election interference” by Democratic “dark money” groups.

    > On Tuesday, the Colorado Supreme Court agreed to hear the Trump ballot access case. Oral arguments are set for Dec. 6, 2023.

  2. How about we make a deal; he can stay on in Colorado but taken off the other 49?

  3. “Her ruling said Trump is not covered by the constitution’s ban on insurrectionists holding office.” It’s been a week for us to digest this. Still makes less than zero chance to me. What do you all think?

  4. right, because why should it apply to presidents of all ppl? Like all laws, it should just apply to… you know, EVERYONE ELSE?

  5. Why not have him taken off the ballot in states with a large number of electoral votes? Seems like that would be more effective.

  6. Kinda surprised he would appeal the insurrectionist finding. Isn’t he proud of his work?

We don’t know yet if it is truly a failed insurrection or just one that hasn’t succeeded yet.

There’s a lot of evidence that it is just one that hasn’t completed yet so why isn’t he proud and bragging about bringing it to fruition?

People should shame him more about it failing. That’ll get him going.

  8. We knew that was going to happen… and… it will end up in the USSC. At least the 1st judge went the distance on naming it an insurrection and that trump led it.

  9. Didn’t even read the article. But there has to be a stat somewhere that shows the amount of legal filings per person in the U.S. jfc

  10. Rapist Trump shouldn’t appear on an electoral majority of ballots.

  11. Trump isnt winning Colorado. The GOP just doesnt want to tank their statewide candidates in the general but they’ve kinda already lost the battle AND the war. They wont control the governor or general assembly again

  12. Reminder. This is for the primary. They can still sue separately for the general election ballot if they need to.
