  1. 1.3 million people that are currently alive, which is to say nothing of the number of people that are about to be born, or will never be born, which makes the number infinite.

  2. Well if 1% of 8 billion is 80 million (checking math). Ffs that’s hilarious!

  3. I like how they all fly their own personal jets to Switzerland and decide everyone else on Earth should rent everything instead of owning it and stop eating meat.

  4. CBS is reporting this you say?

In other news… The network’s flagship program, “60 Minutes,” will now air a special segment called “30 Minutes or Less: The Race to Save the Planet.” Because who has time for a full hour when you’re busy flying on your private jet to exclusive resorts for interviews with eco-conscious multi millionaire celebrities?

Remember, change starts with pointing fingers at others—preferably from a plush studio with a panoramic view of a smog-filled skyline.

  5. Talking about you, Taylor Swift!

    Hold celebrities accountable.

  6. 1.3m? We’re reaching near wetbulb temperatures in densely crowded places like India, so that seems like a really low figure.

Hopefully we will instate some legislation despite the constant counterproductive (but lucrative) lobbying against our interests. Eventually, they’re going to be held to account one way or another. They live on this planet too.

  7. “richest 1%”, i.e. top 80 million people to de-clickbait the headline. The paper referenced to calculate the number of deaths appears to predict them during an 80-year timespan as well. Finally, in the obligatory portion on billionaires, it counts the emissions of their investments, even though those companies would continue to exist and pollute just as much were their shares owned by anyone else.

  8. If we get the 1% to pay 99% taxes , poverty is a thing of the past
