  1. Last pic of the man in the green shirt. Gives me the chills.

  2. The revolutionaries’ weapon are clearly mostly looted as they’re G3s which were current issue for the Iranian military in 1979.

That said you can see at least two Garands in the pic of the rebels outside the US embassy. Oddly enough no Mausers can be seen even though they would feature quite prominently in the subsequent war with Iraq.

  3. Damn, seeing these Iranian women empowered in these images is depressing compared to what there is today, I never thought I would say this but the Marxists would have been preferable to the fucking radical Islamists, I just want female rights to better in Iran 🙁

  4. If I don’t remember wrong all the leftists helped Khomeini come to power and then he betrayed all of them and got rid of all Marxist intellectuals. How naive can you be.

  5. The revolution was understandable considering the increasingly repressive police state Iran was becoming under the Shah.

The idealism of the youth to change things and their faith being a binding element they rallied around.

Sadly like so often the revolutionaries become the new overlords; and subsequent generations of Iranians suffer under the boot of their corrupt religious and military rulers.

Iranians deserve to choose their own path, not beholden to any outside country and not under faux religious domestic tyrants.

  6. I wonder what lives these from the Iranian People’s Fedai Guerillas (4) went on to live, if at all. She looks far too bad-ass to submit to religious fundamentalism. In contrast, I wonder if the women fighting to overthrow the Shah’s (6 & 8) regime lived to regret it.

I get their anger- The overthrowing of the democratically elected Mosaddegh regime by the the U.S. sponsored coup-d’etat in 1953 must have left a sore note for those who didn’t benefit under the Shah’s regime (of whom there were many). But how did (particularly women) not see that Islamic Revolutionaries were not proposing a preferable future for them?

The Marxist (4) probably died a free woman or emigrated or was exiled and live free now. Ironically, the Morality Police that came to be would have Hm dragged the latter woman (8) off of the car she’s standing on, roughed her up a bit, and escorted her home if she re-enacted that image now.
