I’m glad the firm took steps to reduce the risk of it becoming slave labour by loaning them extra money. Very noble of them
It’s an interesting case, but given that by definition she won’t have been there two years and she doesn’t seem to be claiming that they breached the equality act, it seems unlikely to be successful.
This reminds me of construction firms who bring in highly skilled Eastern Europeans, pile them into a house, charge them rent and pay them minimum wage, if that instead of the wages a skilled British worker would demand for the role. It was slave labour what they did to her and the others they bussed over here. They’re just using loop holes to get away with it. They’re definitely taking advantage. Many of those farms wont actually hire British workers because they cant charge them overpriced accomodation fees and milk them.
These jobs are so terrible that the recruiters have to keep changing locations. When the visas were first introduced, they recruited from Ukraine. After a year or so, once word got out about how fuck awful the jobs are, they had to switch to Nepal, then south east Asia, most recently they’ve switched to South America. They’re rapidly running out of exploitable populations and this scheme has only been running since 2019! Can’t help but wonder who they’ll exploit next, my money is on them lobbying the government to provide prison labour.
Fuck these ‘companies’ extorting these people. Instead of worrying about Jimbob smoking a doobie down the park, Police should be chucking these corporate scumbags in prison.
The state of this fucking country.
Why can’t we pay a fair price and give them good employment laws like every other job in the country?
It’s modern slavery that we accept flouting of the rules so we can have cheap food and consumer products.
I remember being told *by certain newspapers* that picking fruits on farms was paying 30 quid an hour, and everyone should be doing it because its such a great job.
