I know this is about Sweden, but what are the odds of Finland finding itself with some ‘contested territory’ in the near future?
Joining NATO could help, but we also need to strengthen our military and stop relying so much on the big guy.

We should do crash program on nukes, arm to the teeth and stay neutral IMHO. Will never happen with current government though.
Up to NATO as well, and NATO’s decisions can be influenced by that who shall not be named.
They should not be under any illusions that they could join when they need to, last minute.

It’s up to NATO. Every member state can veto your membership.
Joining NATO is not a right.
As a Norwegian I really hope Sweden and Finland will eventually join NATO. I would want our forces to help Sweden and Finland. I want them in our mutual defense treaty.
With Sweden and Finland not even having a mutual defense treaty I don’t know how that goes. They are both part of the EU though so Russia attacking EU, yeah, not a good idea.
