  1. Kinda explains his attitude towards it. I got the impression he didn’t give a shit about it. He’s kinda a prick though so hard to tell.

  2. The first season was honestly pretty true to the books. Moreso than the video game.

  3. We know. They didn’t listen to Henry either when he tried to keep it true to the books.

  4. Obviously, he’s a good writer and excellent world builder (at worst). The people on the show are neither of those things. The show sucks. They wanted it to suck, why would they take his advice?

Now, I just want to be clear…when adaptations suck it IS a choice. It usually wouldn’t be up for adaptation if it wasn’t *already good*. Adaptation necessitates change but *not* changes for the worse. There’s absolutely no rule that says you have to make adaptations badly.

  5. Netflix fucks shit up? Tell me more – gene wilder

  6. This is meaningless. He’s always been a dick about his work ( he hates the games and claims they ruined sales of his books by bringing in “idiot” gamers who don’t understand them ). He also didn’t want the adaptation to be like his books to begin with either as recall and didn’t care about changes he just wanted money. Netflix show ain’t great but I also doubt listening to him would have improved anything. He hates his modern fans and the games.

  7. “Your book was successful enough to persuade Netflix to green light a multi-million-dollar adaption, but this success was actually by mistake since your writing isn’t as good as ours. We’ll fix that for you.”

    – screenwriters to The Witcher author

  8. the showrunners didn’t ever give a single fuck about the source material

  9. This show is a textbook on how to ruin a great IP. Aside from hiring Henry Cavill in the beginning, almost all other decisions were destructive.

  10. > “every adaptation that I saw was strange for me…sometimes it’s very nice for me…sometimes it isn’t. I will not elaborate.”

Kinda hard to judge if he’s not going to elaborate.

  11. I love the Witcher but fuck this guy. He delivered the recipe but CDPR baked the cake. I loved the Storytelling in the games, it took me weeks to get through one of this books. He would still be a nobody without the games.

  12. That’s why the show is bad.

It is just bad. Netflix and other studios need to stop hiring showrunners who clearly don’t like the source material.

  13. It’s why the show is absolutely unwatchable for anyone who loved the books.

Half the plotlines don’t make sense because the people making the show **Literally didn’t read the books** and they have bragged about thinking their ideas are better.

  14. I have sympathies for most authors who give up control of their work to make their step into the big-time and those who do it to pay their bill bit not Sapkowski. He had a very valuable IP which he could have easily sold to another TV service or negotiated with Netflix to maintain a degree of control. It’s not use signing the contract and then complaining about it.

  15. Henry Cavill and the Witcher creator deserved so much better

  16. Of all of Netflix’s transgressions, I think fucking up the Witcher and listening to their awful pompous show runner was the worst decision. They fumbled the bag SO hard on this one. This was their golden egg and they ruined it without any thought or regard.
