Since when did the government care about inflation?
They only care about winning the next election!
Tax cuts, pension rises and hope the economy holds out til the election
Tax cuts are a parting gift out of spite from the Tory’s, they know that it’s not the right call, they also know that they are history next election and that Labour will have to put taxes up almost immediately to plug the gaping holes in the balance sheet so doing this now will make them look bad when they get in. This government has never and will never do anything for the good of anyone but themselves and their rich affiliates.
Inflation is evil, and I support any action to stop it.
That being said. Our situation was hugely cause by external energy increases from global issus that impacted every nation in the west. And made worse by our asinine decision in Brexit.
I am sure the bank had some impact with interest rates. The monetary policy was in my view right, though they should have gone earlier and harder.
I give no credit whatsoever to Sunak, who has done nothing beyond blather. The gov impact on inflation appears minimal, energy going down was not him at all.
We need to get it down to target and recognise that the years of 0% interest are over. Maybe try and replicate the growth America seems able to achieve despite chaotic governance.
ONS has grossly mislead the public on inflation, effectively it isn’t down at all and Andrew here knows it.
