  1. It’s quite unfortunate Johan de Witt has been passed down in history as the one who ‘was eaten’ because he is one of our greatest statesmen we ever had.

  2. I translated the Dutch to English on Wikipedia, but the translation doesn’t say mention that anyone “ate” anyone else. So surprised there’s no English translation on Wikipedia.

  3. >After having mangled, and torn, and completely stripped the two brothers, the mob dragged their naked and bloody bodies to an extemporised gibbet, where amateur executioners hung them up by the feet.

Then came the most dastardly scoundrels of all, who not having dared to strike the living flesh, cut the dead in pieces, and then went about the town selling small slices of the bodies of John and Cornelius at ten sous a piece.

  4. And there are still people who have the audacity to complain that Dutch cuisine is bland

  5. They were heroes who gave the English their worst naval defeat ever

  6. I always hear Dutch food is terrible, but this is next level.

  7. Holy shit, it’s not often you wrench your neck doing a dramatic double take on a headline/title you read quickly
