Well thank god Farage is on im a celeb telling us why we shot ourself on the foot economically
Thank god for brexit, at leasst the numbers went down!
I wonder… By making it way harder for Brits to settle in the EU doesn’t this mechanically push net migration up?
Downvoters pls explain the maths.
I’m sure these are all highly educated skilled workers that the economy needs.
Honestly what is the point of the Tory party? Taxes up. Debt up. Crime up. Immigration up.
All of the things they base their whole political identity on, they do terribly.
More than anything economically, this will be the death of the tories. Not just their abject failure to cut migration but the fact they’ve overseen such a staggering rise.
Having worked in immigration far and away the biggest issue is spousal and family visas. Having lived in east London over the last 20 years, my parents street went from large ish Victorian 3 bed detached with gardens to tarmacked front drives, 15 families to a house and huge extensions in the back.
It’s an area that in 20 years has gone to a minority majority of about 80 percent predominately from the subcontinent. Speaking to the immigration offices that have replaced the pubs on the high street through my work, they make a fortune from family visas and chain migration.
It started with Blair’s labour but was turbo charged under Cameron. The demographic change across the large cities is astonishing
For those worrying where all these people will live, don’t worry guys, because we could theoretically build enough houses for the increase in population, it’s a housing problem not an immigration problem.
It would be logistically, bureaucratically and politically impossible to build enough houses in a short time span of course, but let’s ignore that.
EDIT: Warning: this post may contain sarcasm.
That’s one city of population in a year, without the hospitals and schools needed to support them.
Now you see why you can’t get a GP appointment.
All these goddamn nets coming into the country and taking jobs away from British nets!
Looks like nuking our economy to stop EU migration was worth it.
My rough calculation puts that at 4.9 million extra people into the country since the Tories came to power in 2010…
Edit: it’s actually worse because they’ve now updated the 2022 number where they’ve ‘found’ another 130k making it over 5million.
370k student visas.
114k Ukrainian refugees.
52k Hong Kong scheme.
Big increase in work visas as well.
I’m glad people are still coming to the UK to work and hope this has an impact on the staffing shortages we hear about all the time in certain sectors both “high skilled” and “low skilled”.
Do we have stats on where this plays out locally? Which cities are seeing the most growth?
A huge number of these will be students, so off the bat theyre leaving soon anyway etc etc
I am truly baffled that so many are getting visas though. Like what is our system? America and Australia have so many hoops to jump through that a high earning banker would struggle to move to them. Yet we are letting in this number? What is the process? How is some geezer from Pakistan getting in with our system?
The U.K. is on an express elevator to hell and going down
EU immigration is down 70% from peak 2016 FYI.
Global Britain is attractive to everyone else.
How’s that control coming along?
lol.

You folks have been well and truly scammed.
Honestly can’t see why this isn’t a priority as it just effects so much. It’s like a domino effect in a domino warehouse.
While the major ones being rape/sexual assault/theft etc, there are innocents within the bunch being taken advantage of by their own.
I’ve seen enough “Can’t pay, we’ll take it anyway” where they’ve showcased hundreds of houses being evicted because the landlord has been 20+ migrants, or turning the homes into brothels.
So, they have revised last year’s figures upwards in a bid to pretend that this year’s figures are a reduction, which will probably be revised upwards again next year…
It is a shame that so many people are likely to fall for this utter guff.
Good. We need more foreigners, because foreign women are more attractive than English women.
Also more immigrants means we are more likely to have Conservative people give up voting, meaning the amount of votes Labour needs to win goes down.
What I don’t get which people can never explain is why is it so easy for someone on a work visa to get indefinite leave to remain after five years. I understand we have shortages in our labour, but why can’t we do what other countries do and ask them to leave once they’ve done their work?
Once we give them indefinite leave to remain, then it’s an issue because we then have an ever increasing population and hundreds and hundreds of years of additional families and mouths to feed.
You know i hate to agree with Hitchens nihilistic view of the state of the UK but he’s dead right about the Tories. They aren’t actual conservatives, i mean what have they conserved exactly? Honestly, i can’t think of a single difference between them and Labour beyond culture war nonsense. Immigration is consistently the most important issue for voters and nothing is ever done about it.
on the plus side deliveroo availability has never been better
We are full. Please fuck off. We don’t want anyone more here regardless of where you are coming from or what you’re here to do.
The Brexit vote was meant to put a stop to migration from Europeans stealing British jobs. Good news is a number of them have left / continue to leave, and are replaced by South Asians who will be so much easier to integrate. Great Success!
Possibly because we lost the right to move freely to Europe?
