  1. There should be a MASSIVE fine for any MP or public servant not coming to work. It’s an incredible fuck you to your people to just not show up for GOVERNING.

  2. Croatian parlament looks like that on a regular basis..

  3. Nobody comes to work, because Fidesz rules 2/3 so whatever they come up with will happen. the opposition can come in if they feel it’s warmer there than home, but no matter what they say or how much they oppose something, Fidesz’s 2/3 will overrule them all the time. Because of this, when there is no vote, politicians don’t feel like going in. But of course, they have huuuuuuuuuuuuge salaries.

  4. It’s meaningless anyway. The beauty of *managed democracy*.

  5. I fear most of parlaments are like this often or when things they want to avoid is being brought up.

    Sad

  6. It’s Thanksgiving; what did you expect! They’re all with their families eating turkey.

    /S

  7. This is just misinformation. This post insinuates that nobody attends the parliament sessions but like I said on the original post you don’t need to be in the parliament always. On the parliament site you can see what is being discussed and at what time. If someone wants ask you something then you have be in the parliament or have someone answer for you. For example if someone wants to ask the secretary of state then the agricultural minister doesn’t have to attend.

Just because you are a parliament member you don’t need to be in the parliament all the time else you can’t do anything else and that’s not their only job…

It’s another thing that fidesz members try their best to be only in the parliament when voting needs to be done but that’s a different discussion.

  8. Ok, far be it from me to defend Fidesz, but I remember a time when pictures like this of the House of Commons would go viral – and I imagine that the life of a legislator is not too different across countries.

There are reasons for the floor of the House to be full; important votes, PMQs, debates on major pieces of legislation. But outside of those, there is little reason to be there. There are plenty of other useful things and places an MP can be: in a Select Committee, researching in their parliamentary office, working out backroom deals, engaged in constituency work etc. etc.

Do you want them to just sit there all the time so it fits what your mental picture of Parliament *should* look like?

  9. Idk what how things work there, but that’s super normal for Ireland because very little actual business takes place in the main Dáil chamber.

Most of the work is done in committee meetings, local meetings, party meetings etc.

People only show up to the chamber for big votes or when they get a slot to ask ministers questions. Doesn’t mean they’re not working.

They do have to sign into the building a certain number of days a year though to get pay/expenses, so they do tend to be in their offices.

  10. Was probably just some boring debate on some boring regulation. The UK parliaments the same when you see just a few old duffers snoozing on the backbenches.

  11. Duh it’s thanksgiving no one works during that season 🇺🇸🇺🇸

  12. Is this the reason why they havent approved Swedens Nato application lmao?
