Who would be discouraged from visiting over a EUR5 charge, except poor folk? If Venice is serious about this shit, and serious about being fair, ticketing that shit, and maybe having a lottery for the tickets, is the only way. Cinque Terre on the other side of the country already imposes restrictions — you must book your visit but the booking is free. Otherwise you’re just setting the city up to become a massive Hitman level of fancy knobbers

Venice is very nice and pretty but it’s very busy and during the hottest months smells like shit so no thanks. This fee seems more like a way for them to recoup their losses due to Covid.
It’s nice to wonder around for a few days but beyond that. Meh
If Venice would took this seriously they would first ban Airbnb.
Helps also to create moore rentable flats.
