Conspiracy theories are still rife in the wake of the pandemic and the Government has not “got a handle” on the situation, Kemi Badenoch has said.
The Business Secretary told the Covid inquiry on Thursday that she was “very, very concerned” about the spread of anti-vaccine misinformation in the UK and that it continues to present medical challenges.
“I don’t think Government’s got a handle on dealing with misinformation,” she said. “I don’t think that we have adapted to this age of social media where information travels at lightning speed across the world. I don’t know how we solve it.”
Eh? How is Covid still relevant today? People can vax or not, plus not even seen any vaccine as an option for majority of population.
Are there any *non* damaging antivax conspiracies???
The govt cant get a “handle” on this as thats the whole anti vax, anti climate science, chemtrail , Bill Gates etc BS rhetoric is – “the govt is lying to us and nothing they say can be trusted”. The only way to counter misinformation on this scale is to be as dirty as the opposition (eg Russias internet research agency) and have troll farms spreading truth instead of misinformation.

Yes and whose fault is that?
Governments around the world have a lot to answer for when it comes to driving people towards these opinions.
Here’s a quickly developed vaccine, who’s developers & producers where quickly given immunity from any legal consequences of its failings, who’s efficacy made scientific communities question the definition of a vaccine, which had some very adverse reactions in people. But when people asked any questions about whether or not they should take it “shut up anti-vaxxer, you’ll murder granny” was the only response given.
It just beggars belief that politicians thought such an argument would produce anything other than ill will from those questioning them. It turned a fringe movement against vaccines into a mainstream phenomenon.
Seeing that these anti-vax conspiracies are overwhelmingly pushed by the hard-/far-right, perhaps Kemi should have a word with some of her mates? You can hardly complain about anti-vax conspiracies while eagerly subscribing to the same anti-environmentalism, anti-LGBT and anti-woke conspiracies theories that the exact same people promote.
AstraZenika is literally in the high court right now being labeled as defective. And people wonder why there is distrust.
I wonder if its entered her head that shes partly responsible? Maybe if she and the rest of her party didn’t lie like they breathe they would have greater ability to counter conspiracy theories.
> She said it was in part because the UK has a “high level” of first-generation immigrants “who come from countries where people do not trust the Government”.
… and they moved to a country where people do not trust the Government.
She’s usually more than happy to use misinformation to her advantage.
It’s partly human nature. A lot of people choose what they believe and will desperately look for anything that supports that belief because it makes them feel clever.
I’d hoped that the whole Covid thing would have taught people about nuance, balance of risk etc, but it clearly didn’t for many.
I don’t know what she’s talking about. My 5G reception has never been better.
It’s not conspiracies when you know people who have been disabled by the vax. And I spent 8 days in hospital with blood clots in my kidneys and spleen because of it. So don’t say it’s a conspiracy. The powers that be know it’s can cause damage but it’s not in their interest to admit it.
>the Government has not “got a handle” on the situation
What do the Tories have a handle on?
Boris admits that they’re just shit.
Conspiracy is such a loaded term.
There *is* DNA contamination inside the mRNA vials, the Canadian Health regulator ‘Health Canada’ admitted it this month. Immediately people see “ermegherd Epoch Times” as if this evaporates the official statement quoted by the journalist Matthew Horwood from Health Canada:
“Health Canada expects sponsors to identify any biologically functional DNA sequences within a plasmid (such as an SV40 enhancer) at the time of submission,…”Although the full DNA sequence of the Pfizer plasmid was provided at the time of initial filing, the sponsor did not specifically identify the SV40 sequence.”
All this despite the *exact opposite* being argued by the fact checkers, despite independent studies showing it to be true without question. The next stage will of course be to play down the significance/importance of SV40 promoter in the vials.
The UK regulator just refused to look for this sequence despite it being confirmed by Health Canada (as well as three independent studies). Look at the work of Soniah Elijah, who got a response from the MHRA who confirmed they have no intention to even look for it.
This isn’t a conspiracy, it’s just a fact. The regulators dropped the ball.
Look forward to the downvotes rather than the data proving Kevin McKearnan et al (and even Health Canada) to be wrong.
As proven by some of the responses on this page.
It’s a shame that spreading medical misinformation isn’t treated as a serious criminal offence.
Four of my family had adverse reactions and now long term illness after multiple vaccine shots.
Hardly safe and effective the experimental vaccine. Many lies and fear p.r. were told surrounding it (plus the defective ppe scandal they scammed millions from), and no one should have been pressured into taking it as we were. And all the profits big pharma made from it all, plus politicians with vested interests buying stocks/shares in pfizer or owning ppe companies.. exploitative behavior
It was no conspiracy theory.. labelling and demonizing citizens concerned about what they inject into their bodies, and after effects as cranks, is and was at the time disgusting.
She’s a Bad Enoch indeed….
Rivers of Covid Lies
Tory grifters will say anything/any lie to climb the political power ladder and make bank/profit..
Anti-vax, or anti-covid-vax? Astrazeneca has just been sued over the damage their vaccine caused. I’m aware there’s people on the extremes making unfounded claims, but there’s plenty of evidence that there’s been excess deaths following the mass rollout of relatively untested vaccines. Don’t let people label you as a conspiracy theorist for applying critical thinking.
From a member of the party, that is the absolute home of this.
Supporting H.A.R.T, GBD, CRG,UsforThemUK, and a whole slew of Tory rags and extreme right wing US evangelical links.
Absolutely friggin hilarious.
As someone (not anti-vax in the slightest) who had serious myocarditis and subsequent cardiac fibrosis after vaccine (age 26-27), I wish we could have better conversations about this. I have been accused of being an ‘anti-vax conspiracy theorist’ more times than I can count, even by friends, despite having been fully vaccinated and just trying desperately to keep people informed. What a sorry state of affairs we are in even years on.
She is such a fool, why is anyone asking her about anything?
Lest we forget it was a truly insane time.
There was no transparency, no open debate, there was only ‘the message’.
People had questions and were vilified for that. The ‘inquiry’ shows the kind of thinking the government had at the time about the general public and how we were to be treated.
They had a task force whose sole purpose was to scare us into compliance.
Definitions were changed, any treatment was banned, wait till you get really sick and go on a ventilator.
Actual risk was manipulated as was the benefit of the injection. Relative vs absolute risk.
The whole thing was all so shady. If governments want people to trust what they assert they should be open and honest about everything with good-faith debate from all sides.
The truth needs no protection, only lies require work and seemed like they were working really hard.
Even now there are questions about excess deaths in younger age groups. Sadly only time will truly show us the implications of not only injecting everyone with an RNA gene therapy but also the effects of lockdowns and everything else.
I fully expect this post to be blocked… as I said the truth needs no protection.
Who cares, the damage is done to them selves so why would I want to know? I am triple vaccinated and quite alive, so it’s all I need to know
Didn’t someone suggest blowing a hairdryer up the nose to cure covid?
There’s like 75 people in a case against them for blood clots?
Assuming that’s everyone who developed one. That means of the 50 million or so people who received it, blood clots did not occur in 99.9999985% of cases
That’s, a very impressive safety record still
Mate telling me he won’t ever take a vaccine as he hasn’t got a clue what’s in it…as we’re taking turns doing lines of Charlie off the back of a ‘spoons lav
This happened. Conspiracy doesn’t even need to make sense. It’s just got to be a satisfying little mantra you can tell yourself.
