  1. By a South Korean court.

    >Japan’s Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa called the ruling “extremely regrettable and absolutely unacceptable”.

    >”Japan once again strongly urges the Republic of Korea to immediately take appropriate measures to remedy the status of its breaches of international law,” she said.

  2. ‘Comfort Women’. Very polite way of saying sex slaves…

  3. The old conservatives in Japan still yearn for the sun to rise over imperial Japan 😭 why do we study history again?

  4. Am I misunderstanding this, or is this a symbolic gesture with no irl value? Surely the South Korean court system has no jurisdiction over Japan?

  5. >Japan’s Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa called the ruling “extremely regrettable and absolutely unacceptable”.

    >Japan once again strongly urges the Republic of Korea to immediately take appropriate measures to remedy the status of its **breaches of international law**,…

So Japan’s position is, what, exactly?

Doesn’t seem like citing international law would be a winning move for them.

  6. Many of you who are saying Japan already compensated South Korea, that is true. But this ruling is more symbolic than anything. Japan’s apology in the past were half hearted and to this day, there are many hardline Japanese who refuse to believe sex slaves ever happened.

This is the rub – unlike Germany who are transparent about their crimes on Jews, Japan still insists that this never happened and instill the mentality that they are the victims due to the atomic bombs.

Edit: Forgot to add that they whitewashed school textbooks so this isn’t taught at all.

  7. It’s stunning this upkeep of Japan Honour at all costs. Imagine us letting NAZI Germany talk such evil shit then or now.

  8. These bozos again, likely approaching elections, attempting to secure votes by stirring up people.

  9. If Japan is actually going to pay out then we might as well include China in all this. I wonder how much that would be.

  10. South Korea: “Japan we need more money on this issue you already apologized for and gave us ton of money for already. Also you must revise your textbooks to talk about how we are your victims.”

Also South Korea: “Vietnamese Comfort Women raped and murdered by South Korean soldiers? Lai Dai Han?? I have no idea what you’re talking about BUT DONT EVER bring it up again.”

  11. Can’t imagine Japan – South Korean relations not worsening if/when the South Korean Left returns to power smh.

  12. Why did I think this already happened? Or was it just admission that it happened?

  13. Money won’t fix things.

I would like to see the subject of Comfort Women taught more in hopes of honoring the victims and teaching future generations it’s not acceptable.

I had to take a class in college on Comfort Women to even hear about them for the first time.

  14. In case anyone wonders why Japan has drug it’s feet for so long on this one, it’s because Japan is and has been ruled almost uninterrupted by essentially the same people who committed the atrocities in the first place.

  15. The korean government embezzled and misused the funds at the time so its on them to fix this issue right now.

But if they admitted to how the funds were used at the time, it would cause national outrage.

So the easiest thing is to slap it across the board to Japan again.

  16. Well, it seems that both the Korean and Japanese governments want to take up this issue. It is regularly shown on TV when the government raises taxes, passes laws restricting freedoms, or when the approval rating declines. The point is that the ruling party is appealing to the public that if they give power to the opposition party, they will be at the mercy of the other party. The issue is being used politically for convenience because it is a problem that will not be solved anyway. It is the same as the territorial issue.Aren’t both parties thinking, “How many times have we talked about this?
