“Hikmatan is one of thousands of migrants in northern France who are still determined to reach the UK”
So now we know the guys name and face can he turned away at the border?
And as usual they never ask WHY these migrants prefer the UK
I’d also love to know how proud the French feel about their country, seeing impoverished immigrants literally queuing to leave

What war are they fleeing? If they are so desperate why not stay in the first safe country? If the situation is so bad back in your bike country why leave your wife, old parents and kids there? Why aren’t they with you?
I support taking in refugees who are in need of asylum and I detest cruella but really there is a limit to compassion.
I cannot float a dingy to Staten Island saying “Londons economy is shit let me be a refugee here please”.
Whatever the reason, nobody should be attempting to cross the channel in winter in a dinghy.
I actually have no problem with people wanting to come here. No idea why they think it’s better here than France or some other country, I guess language or family, or some idea about the UK being better.
Why should we be constrained by where we were born, and only have the chance to leave if that place becomes a war zone, with good PR allowing us to go to a rich country legally?
The thing I would say is, you have to try to not be a burden. First, you have to speak the language. You don’t have to write poetry, just speak enough that you can get by in everyday situations. Second, you have to accept the values of your new country. This goes beyond legal duties like not committing crimes.
This is the thing that doesn’t seem to happen anywhere in the west, nobody sits down and says “here are our values, at least the ones that aren’t negotiable”. Things like sending your kid back to the old country for FGM, that is absolutely not in keeping with the values of the UK and most western countries.
So yeah I can see why some people are angry about this, but I also see that people are born into a trap.
Shouldn’t expect sympathy when he’s fish food then
“”the UK is the only choice we have.”
And what’s wrong with France? Or the other countries you travelled through to get here.
Well don’t expect sympathy when something inevitably goes wrong. You chose to cross knowing how dangerous it was so it’s nobody’s fault but your own
Let’s face it. Border controls are not the answer here.
Western leaders need to meet and completely rewrite refugee conventions. They are not fit for purpose. Especially with the upcoming waves of millions of climate refugees.
Nobody that crosses outside of a border checkpoint should be allowed to be inside Europe. This is physically possible but not legal atm. We need international law to change.
That is the only solution.
Well, maybe there should be another measure that would deter them then?
A major draw is the fact that once in Britain they can disappear into their respective immigrant groups, unlike in most of Europe where it’s impossible to do anything without having to carry verifiable ID.
You mean ‘illegal immigrants’ – quite the kick in the teeth for the legal migrants that spend thousands and months if not years in becoming so. Fuck this lot, how unsafe must France be?
