  1. Slap on the wrists and back on the streets is not “getting them”

  2. As much as I’d love to believe this, I’ve just lost complete trust in the powers that be, as we all know nothing will come to these arrests and they’ll be back out on the streets with a little telling off.

  3. Insert Rex Banner meme with Homer shouting no you won’t

  4. Lot of them were in similar clothing and a lot had faces covered up. Genuinely, how do they propose to get these people?

  5. I’m sure you will. But fuck all will be done to them. They’ll be told they are very naughty and there will definitely be consequences next time if they do anything naughty again. Then they will go home and reflect on how naughty they have been, and become productive citizens.

  6. Translation: “We’re going to add yet another page to their novella long conviction sheet and you gormless taxpayer, are going to continue to fund their housing and welfare in the city centre while you commute from Mullingar.”

  7. Suspended sentences for all.

There’s WhatsApp videos of the telegram group that organized this going around. Has names and numbers on it. Hunt the scrotes down.

  8. How the fuck did we get here in the first place Leo?

  9. Even if they identify them, I don’t expect anything to happen to the usual scum that get away with assaulting people all the time.

Judge Nolan handing out slaps on the wrist like normal.

  10. This week in the Dail Danny Healy Rae was allowed to have a rant about immigrants and in the Seanad Ronan Mullen was quoting Gript as a credible news source. It isn’t the scrotes stirring up this kind of sentiment against immigrants.

  11. He was in no fuckin hurry to “expedite” this when it was homeless camps being burned down or delivery riders being attacked, but as soon as there’s a bit of commercial property damage he starts the engine on the police state.

Fine Gael places a higher moral value on inanimate objects than on living breathing human beings.

  12. The Guards will “get” lots of them, and have probably gotten a lot of them already as they will have multiple convictions.

They’ll turn up to court in their new sneakers, give the finger to the journalists outside and will be back out in a week.

Do something different. This problem has been growing and growing and this won’t be the end of it. They are not afraid of the Guards, of the justice system, and they are completely beyond shame.

  13. Okay, so Ireland wanted to create bill earlier this year criminalizing “Incitement to Violence or Hatred or Hate Offences.” Why tf are Elon Musk and Eric Trump speaking out against that? And if they do… why would anyone care?

  14. I don’t really get it. Don’t they already have laws to prosecute and go after these guys? I’m all for justice but what does this actually do?

  15. Facial recognition technology is a bit dangerous to start bringing in. Bodycams on guards should absolutely be prio’ed asap though. Imagine the absolute wealth of evidence they would have if guards had bodycams last night and MAYBE people are a bit less likely to attack guards knowing they are definitely being filmed doing it.

The real problem is the lack of penalties or perceived lack of action from both sides. If you’re a law abiding citizen, you’re expecting to read about a lad get charged for setting a bus on fire already has 50 different convictions and got another suspended sentence. If you’re breaking the law, you’re laughing this morning about what craic it was and how your mate got caught by the guards and he was out by lunch.

I feel for the guards, but real questions have to be asked about the leadership there and the justice minister. Surely it would be like shooting fish in a barrel infiltrating these facebook/whatsapp/telegram groups and gathering evidence to start rounding up these ring leaders. People are posting publically on twitter/tiktok too.

  16. Did anything ever happen to the lads who looted Lidl and wrecked it with a JCB? I can’t find anything in terms of prison sentences.

  17. And the narrative has moved on, normal business as usual

  18. We already have incitement to violence laws. Let’s not give the state more powers off the back of this.

It’s a distraction and just more ways to stop criticism of the government.

  19. The legislation won’t apply retroactively, the judges will let them off lightly and we have F all spaces left in prison so no Leo you won’t get them. Fine Gaels “stronger , safer communities” slogan is such a load of shite

  20. People care more about Dublin buses than stabbed children. Weirdos.

  21. Never let a tragedy go to waste.

This is just paving the way for facial recognition technology and further draconian law enforcement that will affect the average person infinitely more than criminals by giving yet more power to the state.

  22. This is dangerous and scary. I don’t like the idea of either of these laws.

Does it not say anything to you Leo that the current sentencing for burning busses, attacking members of the public, firemen and Gardaí isn’t enough to deter these people?

What we need is harsher sentences and not suspended shite. Not more laws.

  23. How is ‘incitement to hatred’ defined? What would be an example of incitement to hatred? I understand there are already incitement of violence laws but haven’t yet heard what these new laws mean.

  24. We have no prison space and apparently building more prisons is seen as toxic because it will annoy PBP and various NGOs.

  25. Amazing, people attacked all through the summer and nothing done. The government are finished and he knows it. Just clutching at straws now Leo.

  26. Great, polarise the country even further with the famously popular ‘hate speech laws’ instead of having an open discussion regarding our immigration issue and the issue of depravity within our inner city that led to lastnights societal collapse. Calling them all racists is surely gonna make them all shut up.
