‘I want to get out’: two landlords on the ‘broken’ property rental market

  1. Two landlords very nearly getting it, while still being very wide of the mark. In addition, the Guardian talking about the return the landlord is making but ignoring the increase in value as a return too.

  2. >He had 30 flats and houses across England – in Grimsby, Kirkby and Crawley – until he sold 16 last year.

Adrian Foster-Fletcher, who owns six rental properties in Berkshire, has made more than £1m from rising house prices in his portfolio.

And they say nurses have it tough.

    >He is among landlords who prefer not to rent to benefit claimants.

    What a lovely man.

  3. Everything you need to know about this bloke ..

“He also says landlords find it too difficult to regain possession of their properties. The pending but delayed ban on “no-fault” evictions could make that harder.

Ahmad started as a landlord aged 18 and he recalls how they used to be able to get their properties back “no questions asked”. Now, he says, “lurking in the corridors of the courts is Shelter”, the housing charity that advises tenants how to defend themselves from evictions and, says Ahmad, “scupper the rights of the landlord”.

The next charity I donate to will be Shelter.

  4. He also states that rents are too high. Who will break it to him that he doesn’t have to charge the market rate. It is his house he can charge much less if he wants can he not?

  5. I’ll gladly take on a property of his if he wants to get out.

So what are we talking, 100, 150k

  6. Behold the field
in which I grow my fucks:

    —.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.

    —-.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.–

    —–.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.—.-

    Lay thine eyes upon it
and thou shalt see that it is barren.

  7. Please wait why I cry one out for this poor unfortunate fellow.

If only those legal shenanigans didn’t get in his way it would all be golden.

  8. “The problem with the housing market is that it’s far to difficult for me to shaft the poor and desperate. It’s communism I tell you!”

  9. >He opposes the ban on no-fault evictions, citing a tenant who was “rude, aggressive and nasty” when he asked them to clear up dog faeces strewn across the garden after complaints from neighbours. “I can’t have someone like that living in my house,” he says. “I need to have a way to get them to leave.”

I’m not expert in this, but wouldn’t multiple complaints from neighbours and breaching terms in the tenancy agreement be considered suitable grounds for eviction?

I’m not surprised that a landlord would oppose the ban, but surely they could at least try to come up with a stronger reason as to why they are against it.

  10. Auf Wiedersehen dickheads, the more of you parasites we get out of the market the better.

  11. Interesting use of the word “broken” to mean “not entirely in my favour”.

  12. You made your bed… you have to lie in it, while paying over the odds for the place as well!

  13. Rents higher, prices lower for cash buyers more competition for rentals meaning much less time void too.

My heart pumps pints of purple pish for him..

  14. I wonder what London bridge must have looked like with all them heads on pikes

  15. It’s not hard to get rid of tenants that are actually in the wrong. Only reason I could see why you’d want to get rid of a good tenant is to sell, but if they’re really good you can sell with them to another ll

  16. Everyone going to be saying good, but if his properties go to a owner occupier that’s one less rental for you to choose from isn’t it?

Writing is on the wall for the rental market in this country.

By this time next year, it will be an absolute fucking disaster, and people here will be moaning about it despite having cheered on the exact process that will have caused it.

    Landlordism needs reforming.

But just scaring landlords out of the market en mass, with no plan for what’s to replace them, is just going to cause us all a world of fucking pain.

    I’m glad I own.

Rents are already insane, and the next 12 months are going to see them become even worse.

I feel bad for the young. They’re totally boned.

  17. Oh no. Person with capital invested has found out that their capital is at risk and ROI is not guarenteed.
    Cry me a stock market.

  18. Parasite: It’s too difficult to get blood from a corpse these days.

What a perfect stereotype of the Landleech

  19. We should just keep forcing landlords out of the market, considering how well it’s been going.

“Average renter now joins queue of 25 competing tenants as rents hit all-time high” – Independent.

  20. My heart bleeds for every housing scalper out there, especially the ones in my home county of Cornwall, where even the council admit there is a huge affordable housing crisis for locals.

  21. So the guy in Berkshire has made £1M in property price appreciation and makes £60k per annum income

Won’t someone please consider these poor landlords 😢
