  1. Ah yes

    The political Posturing

Kick them when they are down

  2. Have to say I do agree with her.

I think the gardai themselves who responded to the incident and those on the streets last night should absolutely be commended but those in charge should be sacked after what we saw last night.

They’ve been being warned about something like this happening for months and they’ve done absolutely nothing about it.

  3. *more importantly,* rank and file Gardai and Garda representative organisations say they have no confidence in Justice Minister or the Garda Commissioner… Great photo-op, tho’…

    we live in interesting times…

  4. She’s right but doubt it would be better under SF.

  5. It’s very difficult to have any confidence in Harris when even the Gardai don’t.

  6. She’s right…but is today really the day for it?

  7. I’ve even less confidence in Mary Lou but here we are.

  8. She wasn’t going to say she has confidence in the Minister, was she.
    This was entirely expected news.

  9. I have confidence in none of them. A useless minister, an out of touch gov and an opposition that will act shocked at people attacking Gardai yet also celebrate the shooting of Gardai. Only in Ireland…

  10. Simple way to address this is for her to explain what she believes the specific causes of the riot were and how different people *in situ* would have dealt with them differently.

  11. No confidence in the justice system.. why are people with 2 or even 3 figure convictions being let out to roam the streets? That burke lad has seen more time inside a prison than people i see in the local courts for violent offences

  12. For once I agree with SF. But I would also like to know what they would do to address this lawlessness we’ve allowed develop in certain younger people, I suspect the answer is some sort of blather about underprivilege and even more money to be thrown at the problem.

  13. The is pretty shameless. We haven’t had time yet to clean the blood of the streets yet but already individuals are trying to see how they can use this incident to further their own personal agendas.

I heard a rep from the GRA on the radio earlier trying to explain why this incident is linked to Garda pensions.

  14. I rarely agree with Mary Lou but on this I do. The Minister and Commissioner must go.

  15. Both realistically need to resign over this.

This has been festering under the surface for a long time. The main thoroughfare in our capital city is a fucking cesspit and is only getting worse.

Think of it this way. How many of those wasters last night were within walking distance already of O Connell Street once things began to kick off last night?? And that’s the exact atmosphere that is around there 365 days of the year.

  16. Drew Harris is an Ex RUC officer, the son of a senior RUC member (who was killed in the troubles). Nationalists were massively underrepresented in The RUC and in the subsequent PSNI. Is it really surprising that Sinn Fein want the Gardai leader out of power ? I don’t blindly support Sinn Fein, but having an ex RUC officer lead the Gardai is a knife in the back to nationalists in the north.

Further to that, how does someone who is likely a British unionist lead the Irish police force ? Clearly it’s just for the money. Doubt he has any will other than that. Maybe I’m wrong.

  17. Good Helen is a disgrace and only got to where she is due to nepotism and the fact that media loves that she is a working mother…as though it’s some rare achievement, not like hundreds of thousands of other mothers do it. Her insistence that the guards have what they need and hands off approach to these thugs protesting during the summer has led to this.

  18. This kind of rioting is a much more regular occurrence in the Sinn Fein strongholds of west Belfast and Derry.

  19. We all agree, Mary. Two overpaid, useless pricks.

  20. The first one is a tad of a “no shit”
Your the opposition. If you had confidence you’d be doing it wrong.

For me I don’t think it was specifically withers fault but a historical issue with Garda not having a visible street presence. On top of that, poor crisis management training. Poor hand to hand combat training. Overall bad tactics for controlling crowds and having situations where Garda are isolated without support. Too many situations where Garda were on their own.

There’s something wrong Templemore and middle and senior management in how they view policing.

  21. Mary Lou wants to give all the rioters dole increases FFS

  22. Let’s be fair, this was all just a matter of time. We all knew there was going to be a breaking point and last night was it. The public have been very outspoken about this and the response from government has been pretty disappointing at best.

Sometimes things need to break before they are fixed. In this case it was 3 buses, a Luas tram, a couple guardai cars and multiple shop windows where looting took place. Maybe NOW they will pay attention? Maybe?

  23. If Mary Sue calls for tougher policing and sentences, she’ll 100% get my vote.

    Let’s hear it, Mary Sue!

  24. Honestly, infighting is what those fuckers want. Govenment and opposition need to rally together and come down like a thunderstorm on the cretins that did this. Figure out how where the system fell down afterwards and fix it then so shit like this can’t happen easily again.
