There used to be a really good tea store in Spitalfields market that paired tea with cake.
I was dubious on my first visit but they served a nice cake with a smoky tea and it made all the difference. It was amazing but I don’t know if it is still there.
You don’t like them, I’ll retort: I do like them. There’s the answer.
I’d blame that Lapsang Souchong fella. He seems to have inspired it
Sounds like a description I’d use for a early 90s boozer rather than a tea 🤢
I’ve been tempted to try these but seen very mixed reviews.
It goes great to wash down food like baked beans, sausages, bacon, jacket potatoes, etc.
It’s great without sugar and milk, plus it has the bonus of my girlfriend not drinking it so it lasts longer
Bloody gorgeous stuff. I like to add (to a caddy of it, loose leaf) a few good spoonfuls of Earl Grey and ditto of Barry’s breakfast tea. That mix makes a wonderful cup of tea. (A bit of milk maybe, but no sugar is permitted.)
OP if you aren’t going to drink it, find a small pretty bowl and empty your reviled tea bags into it. This works as a very good winter pot pourri in the living room!
EDIT…sorry, thought this was just regular Lapsang with a descriptive box, but let my waffling stand, as I really love the smokiness, and this one sounds great.
I’ve not seen that before, I’m an occasional Lapsang Souchong drinker but now know to avoid this horror. It seems they are citing supply problems so they came up with thier own blend.

> Twinings said it had experienced “some challenges with sourcing the blend”, which is why it made the “difficult decision” to replace it with “a new blend which replicates the distinct flavour of the original”
>
> It’s supposed to be “reminiscent of lapsang souchong” but one reviewer likened it to “sipping a swimming pool after a chemical incident”. “Like old cigarettes,” said another.

> Where to get your Lapsang (now Twinings has ruined theirs)
>
> Does anyone actually want a cheap knock-off?
https://twinings.co.uk/products/distinctively-smoky-40-tea-bags
> This is so, so unpleasant. It’s like sipping a swimming pool after a chemical incident. No natural smoke, all chemicals. It tastes awful. Please, please, please bring back real Lapsang Souchong. I know Twinings are trying to cut costs, but this is an insult to customers and if they continue down this corner-cutting route, the will swiftly lose their reputation. I’d rather pay far more for real Lapsang.
Great with kippers and buttered brown bread. A supper for the gods
Doesn’t it mention something on the back about contacting them if you’re unhappy with the product? Do that and use any vouchers they offer to buy one you do like.
Oooh will be trying this
I do, but loose leaf, not teabags. It’s a fine drink for a winter evening. Good with a slice of lemon.
Edit: oh, *inspired by*. No thanks.
Tastes like bonfires, can you turn a negative into a positive. Use it as a smokey marinade for sausages, burgers or other BBQ food?
It’s you like smokey tea, I would recommend Russian Caravan.
I prefer a Russian caravan
Lapsang has always been like that, slightly fishy bonfire. Not for me, when I tried it before they switched to this new blend, which I haven’t tried and won’t.
My boyfriend loves this one because it reminded him when he was smoking.
Hour never seen them before, where did minute find them?
Made the mistake of trying Yunnan Pu-Erh tea.
It’s still sitting in the tin, a constant reminder of my mistake in buying it.
I think it’s well nice. Good with a fry up.
Like drinking tea and smoking a fag at the same time, yum yum
I drink these black with a bit of sugar. Reminds me of when I worked in the welding booth and bonfire nights. I think its an acquired taste.
I buy it as loose tea. I love it.
Ew wtf I hate those 😭
People are allowed to like things you don’t. These types of tea have been around for a very, very long time.
I love Lapsang Souchong tea – but it’s definitely an acquired taste.
Edit – I clearly haven’t bought it for a while though. I didn’t realise that that wasn’t actually Lapsang Souchong. What does “inspired by Lapsang Souchong” mean???
If the only tea you like is English breakfast drowned in milk then you don’t like tea, you like the idea of tea.
Lapsang is a taste sensation, gods work with any cheese
