Don’t say it, display it (as in flags and behavior)!
You guys should read the article, because these other comments completely misunderstand what this bill actually does:
> Civil rights attorney and LGBTQ advocate Alejandra Caraballo posted on Twitter, now called X, that the new bill would prohibit nonprofits from discussing sexual orientation or gender identity at all, effectively banning all LGBTQ nonprofits from the state.
> She then went on to point out that the bill’s vague language, like in HB 1557, creates many unknowns while having large penalties.
EDIT: There are several other decent top-level comments now. When I made this comment the only other ones were saying that this bill is awesome because people don’t want to hear about their co-worker’s personal lives.
Expect more laws like this if Trump wins next year.
It was always intended to be a “don’t be gay” law.
>This starts with deleting the terms
sexual orientation and gender identity (“SOGI”), diversity, equity, and inclusion
(“DEI”), gender, gender equality, gender equity, gender awareness, gender-sensi-
tive, abortion, reproductive health, reproductive rights, and any other term used
to deprive Americans of their First Amendment rights out of every federal rule,
agency regulation, contract, grant, regulation, and piece of legislation that exists.
Freaking vote next year folks!
I am sure this will attract more business investment to our state, which is heavily reliant on a tourist economy, which has not at all been affected by our governor’s hostility toward minorities and LGBTQ groups. Nor will it be affected by climate change. /s
Fucking hell what a bunch of dipshits. I work for an F500. Most big corporations have DEI stuff, as does mine. What does the state think will happen? I get this is primarily targeting nonprofits now, but large employers can read the writing on the wall and don’t want that liability or that headache.
The next question is, who’s getting paid here? Like I am sure some lunatic billionaire is probably funding some of these efforts, but come on. I can’t believe I miss the oldschool corporate corruption over this psychotic, hate driven tilting at windmills. There’s little payoff except the pleasure of jerking themselves off stomping on those they perceive as lesser. I despise all of it, but at least oldschool corruption makes “sense.”
Well that’s going to do wonders for harassment suits.
Wow the hate for the LGBTQ+ community is ridiculous.
This will surely reduce the national debt, root out executive level fraud, and drop rent prices.
Fuck that unconstitutional shit.
Well. Looks like it wasn’t about the children after all.
I keep donating to the ACLU because these people in government trampling on people’s civil and individual rights need to fail.
I have deeply held religious and biological beliefs that keeps me from being an asshole. So can I sue if I get in trouble for asking and respecting someone’s pronouns?
As if any of these pathetic attempts to push back on the gay community are gonna actually change anyone’s sexual orientation. People are still gonna be hooking up on Grindr. Husbands are still gonna be sneaking around behind their wives getting fucked in the butt. Kids are still gonna be able to see as much porn as they want. Florida’s got huge gay communities, especially in Fort Lauderdale and at some point you’re going to get into free speech issues and it’s a sword that cuts both ways
try to silence people… will backfire
> Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; **or abridging the freedom of speech**, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
“Fuck you, I won’t do what you told me” needs to become the attitude of people toward Republicans and conservatives, or your “freedom” will be taken from you.
Party of small government.
I don’t even know why I keep saying this because we all know that they’re all hypocrites and will say whatever the want as long as it benefits their in-group. The more conservative you are… the smaller that group you care about.
All for cheap votes from ignorant people
Yay. Fuck freedom of speech right! /s
First they ban immigrants which was literally like 20% of Floridas work force, now they are working on the LGBT. Desantis is doing a great job of running Florida into the ground. We will not see these impacts immediately, but if this law passes he’ll pass more like it. Immigrants and LGBT make up not only a large population in Florida, but a large percentage of its tourists. He’ll realize his mistake in a couple years when the millions of people he is actively pushing away from the state stop coming to vacation and the economy tanks.
“It’s about protecting the small children” the fascists said 2 years ago.
Now it’s not about the small children anymore.
Oh I can’t wait to travel to Florida for work and openly say, “gay” in every other sentence.
What are these Floridians thinking allowing hate laws and first amendment rights eradication to be used against them?
Nothin says freedumb like Floriduh freedom to be like us or we ban you
Fascism is a terrible look for Florida.
Boycott Florida! They love hate as much as they love money.
Vote for Biden even if you don’t like him, or DeSantis will be Trump’s Himmler, imprisoning, torturing, and executing his “enemies”. Trump’s the danger. DeSantis is just a lap dog of Trump and his own special interests lining his pockets.
Florida is Banning books and now they’re telling us what we can or cannot say. How is this Freedom again?
Ah yes, the self-called home of the free once again stripping freedoms from its citizens. What a backwards fucking place.
Remember when this was just for elementary school children.
“No one could have saw this coming!” – said no one with a functional brain
There it is. It was never about the children, was it?
I love it when people tell me there’s no need for pride.
“Why isn’t there straight pride?!”
Because your fundamental rights aren’t at risk every fucking day of your life.
I thought it was about protecting kids. Oh it’s not. Okay. I’ll stay over on the west coast thanks.
Thankfully I work for a company where being anti-LGBT (or any other type of racial/sexual/religious intolerance) will get your fired immediately.
If someone can’t handle the idea of working with an openly gay person then they can fuck right off to the ash heap of history.
So, it was never about children.
The law will let me express my deeply held religious beliefs at work without fear of consequences? I cannot wait to tell everyone wearing a cross exactly what I think of Christianity.
It’ll be “interesting” to see how this plays out. I work for an international shipping company that requires inclusivity training, all top employees have their pronouns in their emails, etc. It’ll never happen because capitalism sucks ass, but if my company actually took a stand with their business, they could cripple Florida’s economy in less than a week. Just once I want to see capitalism work for what it claims to believe in.
‘Cause it’s been a great, profitable success so far?
Fascists always need an ‘out’ group.
If you’re not part of the GQP’s current target list of out groups, you will be eventually. It’s the inevitable nature of fascism.
As a trans person I couldn’t imagine living in Florida with this. If I recall the language from the bill, it says that employers are to use the pronouns based on an employees sex at birth. For anyone who’s isn’t trans, being misgendered feels like a knife to the heart especially if it’s intentional. I can’t imagine working 40 hours a week and being misgendered at every step. My heart really goes out to Florida’s LGBTQ community.
Gotta protect all those children they plan on putting in the workforce
“Don’t say gay” was initially launched as a means of protecting the children. Anyone who has been paying attention always knew that it would morph into clear-cut bigotry.
The guise of protecting the kids has become a way to soft launch fascism.
NEVER believe a conservative who says their oppressive policies are just about “protecting children.” That’s just the foot in the door they need to strip away the rights of anyone not exactly like them.
this reminds me of that scene in the handmaids tale where June is hiding in an old office building for the Boston globe. She finds a pride flag and a picture of a family at a trashed desk before going downstairs and seeing the site of what was clearly a mass execution.
It was implied heavily that laws like these in Florida were the precursor to the state of events in that show. Horrific that this is even happening
Remind me again how this is Freedumb?
Don’t worry, when they’re done with the gay people, the trans people, the black people, the women, the leftists, the moderates, and the center-right people, they definitely won’t come for you next.
Given that the governor is a small, small man with vindictive tendencies, it is safe to assume that he’ll take his shortcomings of not becoming president (anger) out on citizens of his unfortunate state.

All part of [Project 2025](https://thf_media.s3.amazonaws.com/project2025/2025_MandateForLeadership_FULL.pdf). Just swap federal for state.
