Imagine if 40 years ago you told a staunch anti-red Republican that in a few generations they would be foaming at the mouth to support a Russian dictator just to “oWn TeH lIbS”

    Edit: Abandoning Ukraine is a sign that any leader is unfit for office. Not stopping Russia here will lead to more conquered territories and actually WW3 unless Putin drops dead. Dude could go 20 more years if were are unlucky and he lives til 90. Just a reminder than Crimea was Putin’s without a fight and Ukraine came after. I’m a PP supporter but might actually take a second look after this.

  7. The isn’t “abandoning Ukraine”. The Conservative Party of Canada do not want to try to force a nation in the middle of a variety of economic challenges to be forced to adopt a tax on fossil fuels.

    The Trudeau government not only has a passion for taxing fossil fuels, but see carbon tax as a solution to global warming.

    The Conservatives are opposed to exporting Canada’s domestic passions to Ukraine.

    To be clear, the Conservative party is strongly in *favor* of increased military aid to Ukraine.

    They are in *favor* of increased humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

    And They are in *favor* of free trade with Ukraine, but do not want to have strings attached such as thebenvironmental ideology of the Canadian Government as part of the free trade agreement.

    Most commentors didn’t read the article though.

    Right Wing idealogues are the fucking worst. They’ve been awful in the USA forever and somehow despite being the public minority in voting, we are governed by a right wing congress, right wing supreme court and fucking “states rights” which is code for confederate right wing bullshit rules that empower super minority voters, but only if they are white, right wing christian voters.

    It’s unbearable. the left wing cities, tech hubs and universities power the economy, and the right wing radical christian nationalists skip paying taxes and suck the life out of us.

  16. The Cons voting down the free trade agreement has nothing to do with Trump, Putin, or even foreign policy. The whole problem is that Trudeau shoved liberal policies for climate change into a free trade agreement. If the agreement commits to supporting carbon pricing abroad, then supporting the agreement is tacitly supporting carbon pricing domestically. Trump has nothing to do with the conservative opposition on carbon pricing, and neither does the war in Ukraine.

    This bill was designed to allow Trudeau a victory on climate (which he sorely needed) or claim that the conservative opposition was being weak on Ukraine. He drags out Trump because apparently everyone in the room goes insane when you mention that Idiot’s name.

  20. We should stand with Ukraine. It would be nice if we actually spent enough on national defense to have something real to contribute.

    And I know we’ve given them stuff, like two platoons worth of tanks (8, as far as I know). What I mean is, those donations constituted 10% of the entire tank force. The size and equipment of the Canadian military is even more meager than the average Canadian realizes.

  26. Pierre Poilievre called the recent car crash at the border a terrorist attack parroting Fox News. When called out for this he says he heard it from CTV news which based on the time the article was posted. Timelines do not align. He is a liar, and can clearly be seen as a bold, ruthless liar. He cannot be trusted to lead the Conservative party let alone the country of Canada. He is a career politician who has no experience in life outside of politics. I don’t trust his actions outside of politics are true deeds of good nature, but done with intentions such as manipulating public opinion. I do not trust him. You should not trust him.
