The hypocrisy in this country runs as deep as the landlords pockets
Here is the analysis that would inform each decision:
(1) What is the risk of spreading covid in each scenario?
(2) What is the benefit of holding either in person compared to virtually?
(3) Conclusion: the benefit of opening schools outweigh the risk. The benefit of holding a meeting in person does not outweigh the risk. Although the risk of openings schools is higher the benefit is also higher.
I am not a bootlicker but can we make logical arguments and not look for cheap “got yas’. I just hate when people are deliberately obtuse even when I agree with them.
“Oh I didn’t know covid only could get you after 8” – another example of this shite.
I can’t f*cking stand people who post things like ‘Read that again’ or ‘let that sink in’ as sign offs in tweets. I don’t know if they do it as they think it adds an air of drama, or because we the audience are too stupid to understand without.
Either way comes off sounding like a pompous edge lord
Has life become satire?
It was deemed an unnecessary meetup since it’s fully possible to hold meetings through Zoom.. however I think most agree Zoom classes are not as beneficial to kids as in-person schooling.
Not saying I agree with a return to school at the moment, but the difference is obvious and the tweet is stupid.
Almost like one can be done on zoom and the other can’t….
Government ministers generally have access to laptops and have a decent Internet connection. A lot of kids don’t, meaning that they will be at a significant disadvantage to their peers if classes move online and in turn that’s going to impact their education outc further down the line. TLDR it’s easier to have one meeting online without fucking anyone over than moving education online indefinitely
Yes it obviously comes off as hypocritical but honestly, cop the fuck on. There was no need for that meeting to be in person. Focus on the real issues lads – the government not being transparent about schools from the get go.
Should I know who who Seán O’Raghallaigh is ???
Thank you for putting me in an endless loop.
Interpretation 1: Covid poses such a risk that it’s safer to conduct meetings online.
Interpretation 2: People are so irrationally terrified of Covid, and pathological safetyism and risk-aversion have become so commonplace, that they’re conducting meetings online even when there’s no good reason to “out of abundance of caution”.
Both interpretations are plausible. Take a wild guess which I’m leaning towards.
Shut the fuck up.
Read that again.
We all know the importance of ministers being able to have face to face incompetence.
As a Leaving Cert student, going back online is the last thing I want. Last year’s shitshow is already going to affect us, so I’d much rather keep things as normal as possible going forward.
Also, as fun as it might be taking snipes at the government for every little thing, let’s not kid ourselves saying that it doesn’t make sense to have one meeting between adults online versus teaching a crap ton of kids long term.
So assessing the danger from a distance before deciding whether it’s reasonable to intervene or not is stupid now huh?
Even with covid, are physical meetings required.
Okay, I’m for keeping the restrictions for the moment but the argument “the debate to lift the restrictions should be done after the restrictions are lifted” is stupid as fuck
Hey, Sean, is that REALLY how O’Reilly is spelled in the Irish ☘️language? Like Dun Laoghaire? (Did I spell “Leary” right?) What’s with all the silent letters?
This comment section is really just strong bootlicking energy. He absolutely has a point, not a strong one, but a point nonetheless that people are ignoring to just throw personal attacks at him.
We all understand that online education is less efficient, no one is denying that, and his point is weaker because he doesn’t acknowledge it. But what everyone can agree on is that in-school education is unsafe and mentally draining on students at the moment, no student should have to go to school worrying about the fact they may bring home a virus that could kill one or multiple of their family members at the absolute peak of transmission.
He’s not a dumbass or “pompous” for saying that its hypocritical in a way that a meeting was held online to decide whether kids do online school or have to go back to it. Obviously a zoom meeting will barely affect the “””efficiency””” of a meeting, but whilst they are safe in their homes holding said meeting, they decided to send kids into an UNSAFE AREA FULL OF PEOPLE for their education. Which was a decision they made in the comfort of their homes.
It’s the lies around this issue I hate. I know why schools need to be open, because of how important they are for children’s development, so just tell me that and stop saying they’re safe havens from covid.
I would have loved a blanket testing of all staff if they wanted it. I would be more confident heading back to class tomorrow knowing I wasn’t unwittingly spreading it.
The worst part is, this is also they type of narrative that’s prevalent on this subreddit. This was posted by a person who agrees with the guy who tweeted. The majority of people upvoting genuinely believe this sentiment has any merit. Leo Varadkar could personally cure cancer and someone would spin it as “the government allows every remaining disease to exist”
Does it make more sense to hold a meeting on whether or not we should meet in person… in person? How does that make sense?
Can’t stand when people write that ‘read that again’ bit, when did that craic start
Gang of muppets like how dense do you have to be???
So what?
Most meetings take place online now, if there’s no need to be in the office then there’s no need to be in the office. I haven’t been in my office since Mar 2020.
It would be beyond stupid to ask people to come into the office to have a meeting about this.
Incredible.
Laziness reasons
Irish Twitter leftists are some of the most annoying people. They can never remain consistent. It’s like they’ve watched one contrapoints video and now think they’re experts on socialism. As a leftist, it’s fucking embarrassing to witness
