Held his nerve? Is that a term for “did fuck all and relied on Boris to do poorly rather than do anything of worth”?
Trying to make Keir out as some cunning strategist is laughable. He’ll win by default and that’ll be about it.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha …. held his nerve… utter bollocks …
Just because your opponent gets so much worse doesn’t mean you’ve got one iota better.
Is cringey af that the blue labour types are spinning their own fake news bullshit about starmer being a master strategist.
He’s not even been relevant in the last few months. The Tory downfall is their own doing.
In fact, when party gate broke he was the one saying ‘the police shouldnt investigate this, maybe Boris can just say he’s sorry instead let’s be nice’ when labour and even fucking Tories were calling for an investigation.
Fuck let’s not forget his refusal to vote against fascist laws because of their stupid policy of abstaining. Technically we didn’t vote against the troops! No, actually , you didn’t vote against war crimes. And to Tories, you didn’t vote for the troops. You actually fucked it up on both sides.
All the signs are there that it’s going to be a Conservative win at the next GE, probably in 2023.
The reason is the same as ever, the boomer generation are still alive.
Should be getting loads of “starmer is a commie” posts soon
ok, fine but give us an idea of what we would be voting for. I am honestly clueless.
Not sure this is something to be celebrated too much.
He’s done fuck all, and it’s pretty obvious that Labour’s current strategy is to basically ‘be Tories but sliiiiiiiiightly less wanky so that we can steal voters once people get bored with Tories’.
I want to see change and an end to the Tory madness. But going from the current shitepocalypse to something one degree less shit isn’t the change I want.
LMAO.
He only leading due to scandals.
He will be lagging in polls by early as next month.
The PR campaign for this fuckwit will never stop being hilarious
Honestly, this speaks to how awful Johnson is doing more than how good Starmer is doing.
Starmer’s not done anything, Boris has just finally stepped over the line from a corrupt scoundrel only in it for himself, to being *seen* as a corrupt scoundrel.
It had been all politely ignored for the *greater good* until party gate, now his cockwomble persona is finally being shown to be as inappropriate for the office he holds at it has always been.
Labour though, totally absent. Shameful.
Who the fuck is Keir Starmer? He could literally be any suit found walking around London. He’s not the guy who will reverse the damage they’ve done, he will not win the much needed support of the disillusioned working class (the ones who probably tipped us in the favour of Brexit) and tbh, I’m done with Labour. Voting Green now, fuck it.
I don’t like that photo, it’s like I’m on a date with him.
A wooden post would have a 9-point lead by this point…
Held his nerve? He stands for nothing and has used his time purging any Socialist or left wing Labour members, councillors and MPs often on trumped up bullshit.
He is going to be eclipsed as soon as the Tories decide to switch leaders after blaming Boris for everything.
And with a Tpry PM approaching competence- or at least less openly narcissistic- Starmer is fucked.
Sorry but Starter failed to challenge this government on the most critical issues and was behind in the poll till the last fuck ups. Is it being the least worse considered something to aspire here? Too scared of having opinions, looking forward to real Labour leaders (you two up north stop being majors and bring on the fight)!
Just stand still, no need to do anything, let Boris and his cronies self sabotage
Are we really going to start praising Starmer for doing absolutely nothing while Boris torches himself? Starmer seems like a decent bloke, but all he has achieved so far is not being Boris.
Considering he votes for anything the tories have a vote on, he’s a tory
Strategic Patience is a creative way of saying doing fuck all
Fuck me, were he alive, Jimmy Saville would have eclipsed Johnson this year by simply not fucking as many people
He won’t win in 2023, he’s no Tony Blair. The conservatives can also switch up and put in place somebody like Rishi.
To be fair he’s better than the Corbyn guy
He is on the same team as borris , ill never vote tories or labour .
The quasi-destitute state of millions of working people in this country, the ongoing decline of the middle-class standard of living and the grotesque decline in every public service going…
So the Tories are actually doing very well indeed, aren’t they? Amazingly well considering all of the above AND being led by Boris Johnson. Just 8-points behind.
I think the liberal media are more anti-left than the Conservative Party are these days. Starmer is a failure yet he is constantly proclaimed as a political genius.
Nah sorry not having this at all.
I’m a Labour supporter, and while not in the trenches, I just don’t know what Starmer stands for. Johnson has been a woeful PM – the worst in my lifetime – and those failings should have been the perfect grounding for Starmer to establish his identity and ideology.
We’re watching a Tory party that is basically waging war against the poorest in our country. I don’t demand Starmer go full rage at every opportunity, but his lack of anything substantial is frustrating. This should be an easy election for us to win. We can see the knives coming out for Johnson and yet here we are.
Boris Johnson has spent the last couple of years smearing himself in his own shit in public and Starmer has turned this into a shaky 8 point lead.
A turd in a handkerchief wearing a Christmas hat **should** be able to eclipse Johnson, still seems to be a lot of believers out there though.
Genuinely the first Labour leader I might not vote for in a general election. The way he lied in the leadership election was downright sociopathic.
>In 2011, Total Politics said that Rentoul “is probably the most high-profile defender of Tony Blair’s record in the British media, in a year when the mere mention of the former PM’s name provoked boos at the Labour Party conference. **His column in The Independent on Sunday has become one of the last bastions of pure, unadulterated Blairism”.[7][3]**
>In November 2015, **Rentoul issued a public apology for tweeting that “Jeremy Corbyn might say that France had brought the Paris attacks on itself”. The journalist acknowledged it was a “stupid and offensive” thing to say.[8]**
>Rentoul was critical of Ed Miliband’s leadership of the Labour Party,[9][10][11] **and voted for Boris Johnson in the 2008 and 2012 London Mayoral elections.**[12]
>**In August 2021, Rentoul tweeted a public apology to Labour MP John Trickett. Rentoul had claimed that the MP’s use of the slogan “Kill the Bill” implied support for the murder of police officers.** In his apology, Rentoul acknowledged the slogan relates to opposition to the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill and stated: “I accept that my tweet was wrong and I sincerely apologise for the distress and upset that my tweet has caused Mr Trickett.”[13][14]
So… Starmer’s being briefly ahead of Boris in the popularity rankings? Let’s put this into context, shall we? From the article itself.
>Different polling companies report widely differing figures on this question, but even Savanta ComRes, long the least favourable to Starmer, now has him two points ahead of Johnson when people are asked: “Which of the following do you think would make the best prime minister?” **Starmer on 33 per cent and Johnson on 31 per cent are both eclipsed by “don’t know” on 36 per cent**, but politics is a game of relative advantage. And Ipsos MORI has Starmer 13 points ahead, **while other pollsters also show him outperforming his party.**”
So then, *neither individual is like by more than at best a third of the people, whilst the majority doesn’t want one or either of them*.
And the article is deliberately fudging that, by most polls, Labour still trails to the Tories overall.
Despite Boris Johnson being personally the most unpopular he’s ever been. In the middle of a pandemic. When he’s been caught breaking the isolation rules. And Brexit is tearing the nation apart. And shelves are often empty. And electricity prices are insanely high. And… and… and…
And during all of that, Starmer is only slightly less disliked? And Labour keeps getting reamed in local elections because alienating all their core voters and going all out to be respectable Tories behind a bland, boring, passionless chunk of spam proves to be electoral suicide.
This is a victory, is it?
From the article itself again;
>**During the Hartlepool campaign, when opinion polls made clear Labour was going to lose, he was reported by The Times (earlier this month) to have shouted to his team: “Everyone hates us, everyone hates us, why do they hate us? Why won’t anyone tell me anything?”**
Earlier. This. Month. So just a few days later, a single poll proves it’s all now a wild success because John Rentoul the Rent A Mouth Ghoul wants to *believe* it is, to finally, *after decades* prove his extreme Blairism correct?
Good luck with that. Shame the rest of the country has to suffer due to centrist arseholes like this. But give it another decade of unrestrained Toryism and we’ll all be begging for whatever relief the Corporatist centrists tell us we’re getting, and will love, *or else.*
He’s never going to be Prime Minister though. Labour are absolutely shit at choosing leaders that people will vote for. David Miliband could have been Prime Minister but instead they went for Ed Miliband. It will be a Conservative government for a long time.
Politicians are self serving bastards anyway. Their focus is on claiming expenses, second homes and serving their own interests. Debating politics is mostly arguing over the different flavours of turd that you’re being fed.
Keith Starmer has probably appealed to a lot of undecided voters with his more new labour approach, but has lost support of the left leaning base who supported Corbyn. I don’t think this is the right strategy to win an election
OK throwing this out there – obviously the majority of the people in the country want rid of the Tory party; surely at this stage (in all honesty I don’t think we get rid of them by 2024 – and by then it may be too late) its a case of holding your nose and accepting Jeremy lost (shout out Momentum for the solid gold F in 2019) & doing what we can to dislodge them by voting for Labour or LD where they are next best (e.g. North Shropshire). I’ve never voted Labour ever but if they are ahead locally (has been a typical LD/Tory split until 2019) I will be.
To be fair, there is no kudos to Starmer here. Boris is the most stupid, immoral, unimaginative, lying, selfserving asshole the UK has ever had for a prime minister. Eclipsing him should be seen as being more popular than a guy who steals icecream from kids, kicks dogs and shoves grannies into puddles.
All politicians are for themselves they all talk out there backsides want you too believe them well no thanks..
If anyone believes this has anything to do with Kier Starmer they’re delusional. He’s as electable as a paper bag, luckily for him though he’s up against a pile of dog shit
Who the fuck cares, in a two party system you always get a go, he is so devoid of substance and policy what does it matter?
Sorry but when he backed Boris just before Christmas regarding Covid-19 passports he lost my vote.
Yes Labour maybe polling better but that isn’t because they are more popular, it’s because people are starting to see what Boris is really about.
Replace Boris with another Pro-Brexit Tory and they will be back to leading the polls.
But look how Low Boris has had to get cus sure as shit Starmer hasn’t risen.
By being a 2 dimensional anodyne version of Boris. Keir Starmer is a waste of space.
At every step he’s supported the government, he’s a fucking flannel.
Ah, the old “do nothing and pray the other guy fucks it” strategy. Shame he’s got the timing wrong. The tories are notoriously good at toeing the line as soon as an election is realistically visible, so while Starmer might have his polling moment now, he’s still probably positioned to get slaughtered by whoever is leading the tories in 2024
But……. He hasn’t he’s ahead in the polls because of how terrible the tories have been not because of starmer
Can someone explain why Jeremy Corbyn holds such an appeal with the young British ppl? Or to be more specific why are the young so Socialist?
From what I can tell, having lived in the UK for a few years now, the British have a false sense of being a first world country. They continually prioritize things like climate change, social welfare etc., while the core issue, atleast according to me, is the sheer lack of high paying jobs. Like outside of London, all I see are sheeps, cows and poor towns. London is the economic powerhouse, but most of the money is being generated by a few, and while taxing them sounds appealing, they can pretty much get up and leave for….say Singapore….which I very well will if someone like Corbyn comes to power. From what I can tell, the UK needs more jobs, for eg., in manufacturing, engineering, or a booming tech sector etc. And the best way to attract this is lower taxes, lower regulation. Just my 2 cents.
Not through ability, policy or popularity. Simply because he isn’t Johnson.

Article by [John Rentoul](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Rentoul)… why do I remember that name as being a particularly arseholish one?
Ahh yes;
