  1. Aul boy used to say about galahad there’s no need for any man to go thirsty in this country.

RIP you were the realest bro.

  2. Good riddance. Disgusting shite. They’ve won. I’m just gonna cut down on my intake. I should’ve done it ages ago 🤣

  3. That’s crazy. On a side note the day before the price jump I went to my local centra and had a look around and the alcohol section was almost emptied out. Not because a mad buying spree but because the owner moved it all back to the store room so he could sell it at the higher price the next day.

  4. I’d say there is two options now. We will either see drinks like this disappear from the shelves or we will see the likes of Guinness or Heineken go up to mad mad prices

  5. Can’t believe we’re just bending over and taking this. Prices should be going down to be in line with other EU countries, not doubling in price

  6. i wonder what happens with all the shit drink which is going to inevitably expire because people will opt for the better options of the cheapest drink?

  7. The only cheap beer I’d drink was Guinness so I’ll probably just stick to craft beer and wine now.

  8. The fucking sick twist here is that at that price, no one will buy it.
And when stuff doesn’t shift, you lower the price, to get rid of it so you can replace it with something that will sell.
But they can’t even lower the price or put it on clearance. They’ll have to throw it away.

  9. How much is that 20 bottle box of Coors now? Has it gone from €20 to like €400 or something?

  10. State: Jaysus we made a killing on alcohol tax last year…let’s raise it!
State next year: ok…so, Ireland is broke. We haven’t any money. The alcohol tax scheme didn’t go as planned…please vote fg/fg #1

  11. Minimum price for a bottle of wine is now 7.49. That is 12.5%. I like a stronger rioja, now its going for 8.49. I was partial to a cheeky 5 quid bottle of shiraz from lidl. But alas, those days are over.

  12. This stuff is madness. Just proof that the government has been lobbied to death by the vintners federation.

I don’t know how this is even legal. Is it not anti competition?

  13. Something I can’t seem to find info on, the difference in price, is it a tax? Is the money going to the government or what?

  14. putting my conspiracy cap on I think that this move was definitely pushed by the vintners association in Ireland, and as is their style, I think it’s incredibly shortsighted.

young people will now turn to nightclubs and drugs more than before and we’ll see a further decline in drinking among young people. as a teenager I didn’t like beer, I had to force myself to drink it until I got to the point I’m at now that I fucking love a good pint. part of that journey was drinking Dutch hold in a field. if the cheap booze to drink in a field wasn’t there I likely would have smoked more as a teen and likely did more pills in my 20s, neither of which helps the pubs. also student nights used to offer discounts on drinks which wouldn’t meet current minimum pricing rules. I don’t know if pubs have to abuse by minimum pricing but if they do you’ll see a lot less students going drinking too.

  15. Come to Northern Ireland 20 bottles of corona £14 treat the misses to a bottle of blossom Hill for £5.80 a bottle 🤔
