Very sad news. I always used to listen to her midnight till 3am show on Radio 2. And she read out texts from me a couple of times. Could be very funny, but also knew a lot about music and championed a lot of artists before they were famous.
Also texted in as my now husband is a hgv driver on nights and used to listen to Janice had 2 texts read out made his night greatfor long distance relationships 😁
She was a great DJ.
Don’t get them with that depth of passion and knowledge for music anymore.
That’s horrible news. She got me through my third year at uni with horrific roommates. Remember her being on air when a mini earthquake struck.
Typical of the BBC to fail to mention her ongoing Greatest Hits show.
got to know her when i started watching old clips of top of the pops from the 80s. she was a brilliant presenter. RIP
Damnit – Another part of my youth slips away…
She was a great DJ and presenter in a time when women were a bit under represented..
She was a groundbreaker for ladies on Radio and TV, also the elder Sister of Keith Chegwin
When I was a teenager in the 90’s I used to listen to her whenever insomnia would hit. RIP.
Sunday evening straight after the chart show…was her show I remember fondly…(sigh)
RIP…..always to be in MANY of our hearts…
Sad news, she was a very nice person and a huge supporter of indie bands. There are many who wouldn’t have made their careers without her support.
She was a great broadcaster. The BBC shit on her from a great height in much the same way they did on Simon Mayo – took award winning shows and destroyed them. Meanwhile paying the mincing, shuffling ex Tory MP Michael Portillo six figures for riding trains along with his right wing colleagues, Tim Davie, Laura Keunssburgh, Nick Robinson. Dissgraceful.
I was in a band* in the 80s. Janice Long played our record and asked us to do an Evening Show session. Had a great day at Maida Vale studios.
*When I say ‘band’. It wasn’t really a band as such, it was me and my mates with a turntable, a sampler and a record collection.
Used to listen to her on Radio 2- when I was very ill with undiagnosed Bipolar. Bringing back memories of the bedroom etc.
So young to die.
Janice was awesome and reading this immediately made me remember her voice, her personality. She was a lovely, warm funny person and even though I haven’t thought of her once in well over 20 years- I will miss her. R.I.P
Fantastic broadcaster just like her brother Keith, morrissey paid her a great tribute
