  1. It’ll be interesting to see if this leads to a change in government policy on twitter. Government departments and stuff still have accounts that they use. I think they’re still buying ads, whereas some places have stopped.

  2. it’s always “they” that are failing fulfill the standards, isn’t it?

  3. They certainly do a good job removing what Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, and Israel want taken down.

Why should it be any different for Ireland?

  4. Will be very interesting to see what is contained in the next set of documents he releases. Twitter Files: Dublin edition. I bet we see sooooooo many SFFG names calling in favours.

  5. Things like this are bound to happen when you fire everyone responsible for dealing with it.

  6. Social media companies enabling alt/far-right terrorism? Colour me shocked

  7. Am I the only one thinking Helen is just deflecting blame here. I wish she would go. She is useless.

  8. Have reported so much blatantly racist, xenophobic, inciting violence, dehumanising rhetoric on that platform recently – no action on anything. They never take down anything these days.

  9. Typical of her to blame someone else, she is a horrid human being that has no business being a politician.

  10. I’d wager a lot of money that if the people organizing what happened the other day were left wing, ‘free champion’ Elon Musk would have had it all taken down and censored ASAP.

  11. Soon the only difference on censorship between Western nations and China, will be the use of public-private-partnerships to implement political censorship.

  12. I fear when billionaires have so much media. Get twatter out of EU now!

  13. I have reported multiple tweets for the last couple of months. Nothing gets taken down unfortunately.

  14. This is all smoke and mirrors to cover lack of policy on borders and policing .

  15. Sure why would they when the owner of Twitter is literally boosting these guys by retweeting them and replying to them to help them with the algorithm. Elon Musk is directly trying to interfere with Irish democracy.

  16. This is a good thing.

For all of you who have a hardon for censorship, kindly pack your bags and head off to North Korea or China.

  17. Personally I don’t think that the post should be taken down, let put some sunlight on these people it’s makes it easier to find some of these scumbags when they are hanging themselves showing off that they are doing these things.

It might be embarrassing to the country, but we need to see this and we need to see what could be on its way.

  18. Good. These companies are supposed to be a neutral, passive conduit through which individuals share messages entirely unimpeded. That’s the founding principle of the internet, in direct opposition to hierarchical control, and its utterly depressing to see so many people cheering and calling for its destruction.

The Gardai and the government have absolutely no right to demand that any piece of information whatsoever be removed from the internet. And the day that changes, we have sacrificed our freedom in a depressingly fundamental way.
