Putin isn’t just grabbing territory, he is trying to rewrite Ukrainian identity and history. We haven’t seen action like that since WW2. It is genocidal and we have a moral imperative to support the Ukrainians: Ian Brzezinski, Atlantic Council

“Putin isn’t just grabbing territory, he’s trying to literally rewrite Ukrainian identity,” says Ian Brzezinski at the Atlantic Council.
“We haven’t seen an action like that since World War II, and it is genocidal”

This is not news. Fund Ukraine. Put this cunt in the unmarked grave he deserves.
Invading a sovereign nation for the sixth time. Chechnya twice Georgia Moldova and Ukraine twice. This is an old play from an older book. Though I don’t think Russia would be ready to invade a nato country for atleast a generation. I mean they burned through 3-4 generations of supplies men and equipment to sort of get to the Dnipro river
I think Putin actually revealed this himself in a speech a few days before the start of the invasion…talking directly to Ukrainians, I recall he outright threatened them with:
“You want to join NATO and therefore, you want defraternization with Russia? We shall soon show you what defraternizing with us truly means…”
I don’t recall exactly every word, so possibly he didn’t use “defraternize”, but it was another similar (and weird) word with a similar meaning. But the point is, with that open threat, it was already clean the main objective of the russian invasion that was going to happen soon wasn’t just about grabbing more lands, but erasing and rewriting Ukrainian history, culture and identity too, and therefore, truly a genocide…
Pootin invaded because he was so successful last time he did it in 2014. Many leaders would have looked at the clusterfuck russia has got itself into and withdrawn back to their 2014 captured borders in the first 3 months of this war, but pootin thinks he is clever but has fucked up badly and russia will almost definitely cease to exist because of him.
Ironically, Putin is succeeding in rewiring Ukrainian Identity.
Just… not how he thought he would.
Pretty sure the Balkans saw all of this already a quarter century ago. Also many more countries saw some of it. Often enough Russia was involved.
Lots of smart people saying all the right things. If saying what needs to be done could kill invaders, Ukraine would have won already.

Because it was today the “topic of the day”, xx years before in Deutschlandfunk:
I wanted to find any hint in Putin’s speech in Munich, 2007.
But I am too distracted by the feeling that his voice has changed.
Can have other reasons.
However:
“… The use of force can only be considered legitimate if the decision is sanctioned by the UN…”
at 11:39.
Yes, as we know …
vs. 29:40
“… Russia is country with history that spans more of a thousand years and has practically always used the privilege to carry out an independent foreign policy. We are not going n to change this tradition today …”
Trigger waning, Putin:
